About the Role:

Remitly is looking for a Senior Counsel, Employment, reporting to the Deputy General Counsel, Corporate to advise the global business on employment law matters. You will partner with our People and global teams to provide both strategic guidance and daily support on legal issues relating to our global workforce, including those relating to hiring, immigration, compensation and benefits, internal investigations, DEI and other employment related matters. You will be an essential member of our growing legal team, partnering with our teams around the world as Remitly continues to expand its business.

You Will:

  • Proactively develop and review employment policies to ensure legal compliance and consistency with best practices
  • Work with teams to maintain employment compliance
  • Build processes and resources that help the Legal team grow, including People team training materials and up-to-date templates and playbooks for Legal teammates
  • Support Legal teammates on a range of strategic global projects

You Have:

  • You're independent, but also work well under direction and in a team setting
  • You can handle highly sensitive employment matters with discretion and under time constraints
  • You work across time zones and with non-legal stakeholders
  • You are flexible, comfortable with ambiguity, and motivated to improve
  • You've advised and worked with senior executives of an organization

Basic Qualifications

  • Qualified corporate lawyer with bar admission in a major jurisdiction (preferably Washington, New York, Delaware or California)
  • Experience in a broad range of personal and collective employment law related issues
  • 5+ combined years of legal experience as an in-house employment counsel or in a top national or international law firm, with preference for both in-house and law firm experience
  • Experience working with and managing external counsel
  • Comfortable advising within a structured and data-driven commercial framework
  • Worked in a company during a period of growth from hundreds to thousands of employees and with a global presence
