You + Helix

Helix is a place where innovators and doers gather in order to drive significant progress in population genomics. We have come together to work at the intersection of clinical care, research, and genomics.

If you’re excited by the idea of making a meaningful impact and joining a team where we pride ourselves on driving innovation through fostering an environment with an emphasis on empowering one another to grow, Helix might be the place for you!

Helix + The World

Our end-to-end population genomics platform enables health systems, life sciences companies, and payers to advance genomic research and accelerate the integration of genomic data into routine clinical care. We support all aspects of population genomics from recruitment to translational research and help our partners use genomics to improve health outcomes, increase patient engagement, and lower costs. Leading health systems, including Renown Health, AdventHealth, and Mayo Clinic, use our population genomics platform to power some of the world’s largest and fastest-growing population genomics initiatives.

For the COVID-19 public health crisis, Helix has built one of the nation’s largest COVID diagnostic labs and has been on the leading edge of national viral surveillance efforts tracking B.1.1.7 and other viral strains.

What is special about this role:

As Product and Regulatory Counsel, you will guide and inform Helix’s approach to healthcare regulations and privacy requirements and have the opportunity to provide legal support across the lifecycle of Helix’s products and services. You will work directly with the Senior Director, Legal and Head of Privacy and Compliance and receive training and mentorship from the VP of Legal, the broader Legal, Privacy & Compliance Team, and G&A staff to support your personal and professional development. As part of a small but growing team, you will support the growth of both existing and emerging business lines at Helix, interpret complex regulatory frameworks, translate their meaning and implications for the broader Helix team, and provide guidance on how to effectively execute in light of them. You will be expected to work independently while knowing when to escalate issues to senior attorneys and other managers.

As a Product and Regulatory Counsel, you will:

  • Research and provide advice on existing and emerging regulatory frameworks in healthcare.
  • Work collaboratively within and outside the legal department to help ensure that Helix products and processes are compliant with applicable laws and regulations relating to healthcare compliance, consumer protection, and privacy.
  • Work closely with internal teams to understand Helix’s overall business and how each product and service works.
  • Document counseling and help organize and drive legal processes.
  • Develop, draft and implement trainings, educational tools, and guidance documents for internal clients, partners and stakeholders on key policies, procedures, practices, and regulatory and privacy requirements.
  • Review and provide legal advice on marketing assets, go to market plans, consents and authorizations, and product architecture.
  • Partner closely with product, engineering, marketing and other teams throughout the organization to ensure a clear understanding of regulatory requirements, recommended guardrails, and optimal execution strategies.
  • Develop excellent working relationships and act as a key resource between Helix’s legal department and other functional groups and project teams, including Business Development, Partnerships, R&D, Supply Chain/Ops, Marketing, Product and other teams to provide guidance in support of their business objectives.

About You

  • U.S. Law degree and an active member in good standing of the California Bar.
  • At least 3+ years of related legal experience, with a focus on product and regulatory counseling in the context of healthcare, life sciences or biotechnology.
  • Exceptional organizational, project management and planning skills.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and multitask amid evolving business needs and priorities.
  • Intellectual curiosity and a creative and collaborative approach to problem-solving.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity, complexity, and nuance and ability to balance risk calculations with business and commercial sense.
  • Experience in solving product legal matters, including communicating and collaborating effectively with stakeholders with wide-ranges of legal and technical experience and knowledge.

What’s important to us:

  • Curiosity — we are all passionate about the possibilities enabled by having access to your own genome
