OVERVIEW

As Product Counsel, you’ll work closely with our product development teams to help solve legal problems and enable the business to scale and grow. You’ll be providing sound legal advice to clients with respect to business operations and product development. You’ll need to be proactive and engaged, able to work well cross-functionally both internally and externally, excited about technology and e-commerce, and ready to roll your sleeves up and dig into legal problems to reach a creative solution. ABOUT THE JOB

Work closely with our product development teams to provide counseling, education, and guidance on legal compliance for new and existing platform features and tools.
Work cross-functionally within the legal team, including litigation, privacy, compliance, and intellectual property.
Provide sound, practical advice and guidance on legal and business-related issues.
Create and support continuous improvements of forms, policies, and processes to help streamline, simplify, and automate support.
Understand and stay up to date on applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards related to platforms, systems and tools with the ability to explain complex legal issues in plain English.
Think ahead, see around corners, and help to prepare for and minimize risks that may arise in the future.

ABOUT YOU

A J.D. and membership in the California Bar in good standing, or eligible to register as in-house counsel with the California Bar
A minimum of 6 years working as a lawyer at a leading law firm or in-house legal department (in-house experience, especially at a tech company or retailer, a plus)
Innate curiosity, desire and ability to learn rapidly
Resiliency and comfort serving as a trusted business partner
Quick adopter of new and evolving technology
A team player with a sense of humor and self awareness

Uniting colleagues through shared passions

Lancaster works with Instacart ERGS through his events-focused role. He also co-leads its LGBTQIA+ ERG, Rainbow Carrots. “We’ve made efforts towards allyship, inclusivity and amplifying intersectional voices of the LGBTQIA+ community,” he said. Pride Month events (themed “Community: Connectedness in our now Virtual World”) included a fundraiser for nonprofit Rainbow Railroad, a Gin and Gender class, and guest speakers.

My involvement with the Rainbow Carrots ERG has given me the opportunity to influence the voice of LGBTQIA+ community on a corporate level and educate others in meaningful ways — providing a list of actionable items that speak to the difference between advocacy and allyship.

A culture that is empowering for all

“I am passionate about empowering, mentoring and uplifting women in tech,” Guo said. A co-lead of Instacart’s largest ERG, [email protected], she curated programming for Women’s History Month that included leadership talks and a “Rock Your Review” workshop. Additionally, she launched and leads the ERG’s engineering mentorship program aimed at sharpening participants’ technical skills and fueling career progression.
