Coinbase has built the world's leading compliant cryptocurrency platform serving over 73 million accounts in more than 100 countries. With multiple successful products, and our vocal advocacy for blockchain technology, we have played a major part in mainstream awareness and adoption of cryptocurrency. We are proud to offer an entire suite of products that are helping build the cryptoeconomy and increase economic freedom around the world.

There are a few things we look for across all hires we make at Coinbase, regardless of role or team. First, we look for signals that a candidate will thrive in a culture like ours, where we default to trust, embrace feedback, disrupt ourselves, and expect sustained high performance because we play as a championship team. Second, we expect all employees to commit to our mission-focused approach to our work. Finally, we seek people with the desire and capacity to build and share expertise in the frontier technologies of crypto and blockchain, in whatever way is most relevant to their role.

Our growing legal team is building out its litigation practice. You will be working in a cutting edge and fast paced environment, where disruptive technologies and unconventional thinking are the norm.  We are seeking an experienced litigation paralegal who can support our growing commercial litigation team. This position will report to our Associate General Counsel, Commercial Litigation, who is based in the US.

What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):

  • With guidance from attorneys and other members of the Litigation team, log, calendar, and track incoming litigation, arbitrations, subpoenas, liens, garnishments, and letters from counsel for commercial litigation and regulatory investigation matters.
  • Provide operational support to maintain, evaluate, and, where needed, improve, electronic case management systems and electronic discovery programs.
  • Assist with preparation and filing of litigation and arbitration case pleadings via electronic filing, overnight courier, or other means with courts and arbitration bodies in the US.
  • Liaise with court and arbitration body staff to coordinate timely filings, telephonic and video appearances.
  • Assist with document production, discovery and record-keeping for company response to complex litigation.
  • With guidance from attorneys and other members of the Litigation team, review third party data requests and prepare objections/responses including productions; manage follow up inquiries and procedures regarding the same.
  • Manage third party access to certain company systems.
  • Assist legal operations with various operational matters including but not limited to invoice processing and check requests.
  • Draft routine correspondence.
  • Support teams with other projects or tasks on an as-needed basis.

What we look for in you (ie. job requirements):

  • Exceptional professional judgment, ideally exercised in a startup environment.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to execute under pressure and within tight timelines while juggling multiple projects.
  • Highest level of accuracy, superb attention to detail and excellent proofreading skills.
  • Ability to process highly confidential data and maintain discretion.
  • A self-starter with enthusiasm, who can work independently with minimal oversight on certain projects but who is also a team player and can support on projects when needed.

Nice to haves:

  • Proficiency with Google Suite (Google Drive, Gmail, Google Calendar), Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Powerpoint, Excel), Docusign, and Adobe Acrobat Pro DC.
  • Familiarity with Advologix, Jira and Slack or other related software systems, as well as e-discovery platforms like Logikcull and Relativity.
  • Experience with technology companies (ideally Fintech) whether as clients while at a law firm or as an employer.
