What does this team do?
Our Legal Fools speak fluent legalese while walking a tight rope* and wearing a jester cap**. The Fool is a place where a lot of fun and a lot of work happens quickly. Our Legal team ensures that we maintain strict adherence to laws and regulations that may affect all of the work and fun we do. What would you do in this role?
In this role, you'll be advising and supporting the Fool's business operations and initiatives. You'll be surrounded by Fools who move quickly, think brilliantly (we hope), and constantly look to disrupt the status quo in ways that help investors. And we need someone like you to make sure we color beautifully AND between the lines.
But what does this role actually do?
- Review marketing and advertising content for interactive media, publishing, as well as investment advisory services
- Advise internal clients on a wide array of matters including marketing and promotions, e-commerce, social media and intellectual property
- Draft and review nondisclosure agreements, advertising and other commercial agreements
- Work with other members of the legal department to develop compliance and other internal policies
- Other matters, sometimes strange, as they arise
- Provide documentation for external auditors
What do you need to apply?
- At least two years of legal experience in a law firm or company
- Good standing membership in at least one U.S. state bar
- Passion for the law and business, technology, and/or investing
- Intellectual flexibility and enthusiasm for innovation
- Organizational prowess to prioritize and juggle multiple time-sensitive matters simultaneously
- Ability to communicate legal concepts to non-lawyers
- Ability to understand and embrace The Motley Fool's philosophy, culture, values, and goals
- Juris Doctor (AKA J.D. degree)
It's even better if you have
- Specific knowledge of and demonstrated practical experience with federal and state laws and regulations related to marketing, advertising, and consumer protection
- Experience in native, influencer marketing and sponsorships
- Knowledge or interest in securities regulation, commercial agreements, or intellectual property
- Experience reconciling business needs with regulatory and legal requirements

Our targeted cash compensation for this role is between $110,000 and $150,000, which does not include any potential equity offerings.
