About the job

This position is needed to drive Twilio’s trademark filing and enforcement strategy. 

Twilio is growing rapidly and seeking a Lead Trademark Counsel, to hone and drive our trademark strategy. This role will be primarily focused on trademark matters in addition to supporting patent and open source issues.  The role will also involve IP diligence/integration for M&A activities, IP licensing, and copyright. Reporting to the Dir. and Managing Counsel, IP, this position will work closely with the marketing, product, corporate development, integration, finance, accounting and tax teams. 

Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll:

  • Lead Twilio’s trademark filing and enforcement strategy.
  • Engage with our marketing team to clear, protect and enforce Twilio’s trademarks.
  • Develop and manage trademark policies and trademark clearance and guidelines.
  • Take the lead in M&A due diligence and integration for acquisitions and the review of intellectual property provisions in M&A and commercial agreements.
  • Provide support for IP litigation.

Required:

  • Due to the expectations of the role, we require a J.D. or equivalent with strong academic credentials and 10+ years demonstrated record of success as a lawyer and eligible to practice law.
  • In-house experience developing and executing trademark strategy.
  • Experience advising on or managing trademark and other IP issues.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal, and ability to advocate for a position while maintaining a collaborative and open-minded approach.
  • Ability to appropriately triage a heavy workflow, setting appropriate priorities with clients and delivering results efficiently.
  • Good sense of humor, interest in learning new things and desire to get things done.

Desired:

  • IP Litigation experience (preferred). 
  • IP M+A due diligence and integration experience.

Location 

This role will be remote and based in the USA.

Approximately 5% travel is anticipated.

  • The estimated pay range for this role, based in Colorado, is $127,960.00-$182,800.00
  • Additionally, this role is eligible to participate in Twilio's equity plan.

The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location within the state. This role is also eligible to participate in Twilio’s equity plan and for the following benefits: health care insurance, 401(k) retirement account, paid sick time, paid personal time off, paid parental leave.
