About NEAR

NEAR Protocol is a developer-first blockchain that emphasizes convenience and speed of development on the NEAR platform while minimizing the entrance barrier for developers coming from the blockchain ecosystem, as well as regular web and mobile development space.

We are looking for a talented, meticulous, and productive person who loves working in an energetic and free-thinking environment, feels comfortable challenging opinions, and most importantly who shares with us the same desire to make the web free again.

We encourage people of all backgrounds to apply. NEAR is committed to creating an inclusive culture, and we celebrate the diversity of all kinds.

About The Role

We are seeking a talented and energetic legal mind with a passion for the blockchain space to take on a broad mandate of activities across the regulatory and legal spectrum. This requires a special kind of person who is very detail-oriented but also curious enough to keep on the forefront of ongoing regulation in securities law, employment law and financial regulation across both US and international arenas.

As General Counsel, you will be the champion of our legal/regulatory strategy and the steward of the operations that support it. You will work directly with the rest of the leadership team to ensure our efforts are compliant with applicable regulations and that our strategy is the most effective for achieving our goals. This requires all the usual General Counsel duties -- contract, employment, corporate governance, commercial agreements, privacy/T&C, IP, securities issues, etc -- but also a forward-looking eye for strategic engagement with regulatory bodies to help navigate and craft policy.

To be successful, you will need to be comfortable operating in a fast-moving environment with high levels of uncertainty. It’s a demanding role but one where you have ownership of your output and a significant direct influence on the path of this project and this industry.

The best candidates will have a public profile and opinions about the crypto space and its legal/regulatory environment. Your profile grows with ours.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Negotiate, draft and review legal documents
  • Monitoring of applicable laws, regulations, and policies
  • Render cross-departmental support on legal projects
  • Facilitate efficient corporate legal housekeeping

What We're Looking For:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Legal Studies, or in a related field is a must
  • Proven experience and demonstrated passion for crypto/blockchain (DLT)
  • Ideally you’ll have 5+ years of in-house experience with a top venture-funded startup or in a firm that specifically caters to this audience
  • Proven experience in corporate governance, contracts, securities regulatory compliance, and AML KYC compliance

Locations: Remote US

Working at NEAR: Roles are posted to this portal on behalf of the companies that make up the NEAR Collective and are typically located anywhere in the world because most of the companies are fully remote. Some hubs are located in Switzerland, Germany, Russia, the US and China. Regardless of where you work, this is a high performance culture that values ownership, execution and professionalism but pairs it with curiosity and experimentation. The vision is big but the right team is behind it.
