The Legal team at Chainalysis advises both internal and external stakeholders on the forefront of cryptocurrency and its constantly evolving landscape.  Our job is to ensure the company continues its rapid growth by employing sound and efficient judgment to support operations around the company and influence a groundbreaking industry as it matures and becomes more widely adopted. 
The Director of Legal, Public Sector knows what it’s like to litigate criminal cases related to emerging financial technologies and is an expert on the legal process as it relates to financial crimes and investigations. They’re an advocate, educator, and advisor for Chainalysis and the cryptocurrency market as a whole. We measure success by how you enable smart growth for the organization. 


In one year you’ll know you were successful if you’ve…

  • Advised and supported customers, and their investigative and prosecutorial workflows, to ensure all stakeholders are educated on our products, capabilities, and how they interact with legal standards 
  • Advised and supported Chainalysis’ public sector business with respect to any legal issues that arise, including working closely with our Investigations and Special Projects team on all aspects customer investigations and support
  • Advised and supported Chainalysis teams on regulatory compliance across geographies 
  • Worked closely with the rest of the Chainalysis Legal team on commercial matters and product and feature development for public sector customers
  • Educated Chainalysis teams on how our products fit into the legal process, in the U.S. and internationally, and how we might improve our products to better support customers involved in the legal process 
  • Within the legal and prosecutorial target market, lead successful efforts to proactively develop and advocate Chainalysis’ industry-related policies, positions and strategies, forging constructive solutions and building industry coalitions as necessary to advance Chainalysis’ interests 
  • Collaborated with the Director of Regulation & Compliance to discuss emerging legislative, regulatory and compliance issues 
  • Collaborated with the Head of Public Policy in Chainalysis to advocate for laws, regulations, and policies favorable to the company and the crypto ecosystem, with a particular focus on those that apply to law enforcement and prosecutorial audience
  • Within the legal and prosecutorial market, managed incoming inquiries on policy issues on behalf of Chainalysis and participate in the development and dissemination of positions to advance Chainalysis’ objectives, including testimony, comments on regulations, and policy-related talking points and messages
  • Become an expert on applicable laws, regulations, and enforcement actions to identify emerging risks with the cryptocurrency community and alert leadership to relevant trends and risks


A background like this helps: 

  • Juris Doctorate degree and relevant legal experience related to financial crimes, cybercrimes, or other relevant area of practice (required) 
  • Demonstrated track record of working with and earning the trust and confidence of high-profile government leaders and serving as a trusted advisor/counselor
  • Executive-level business acumen in the areas of business operations, industry practices and emerging trends
  • Excellent ability to anticipate and mitigate risk

  • Employees will not be required to attend an event or in-person customer meeting. 
  • Employees in the EU and the UK are allowed to travel internationally for internal meetings to any country deemed “green or amber” by the EU and the UK authorities. All attendees for Chainalysis in-person events or meetings will be required to adhere to the following guidelines:  
    • International travel will only be permitted if you receive approval from both your manager and Executive Leader
    • You must familiarize yourself and comply with any screening/safety protocols imposed by the entity/individual hosting the in-person meeting or event
    • You must comply with any and all safety guidelines and travel restrictions established by applicable law  
    • If you are in close or proximate contact with others at the event/customer site and test positive for COVID-19, you must immediately notify the People Team and avoid contact with others for 10 days

With circumstances changing on a regular basis and parts of our APAC team going in and out of mandatory lockdown, APAC will continue to follow country legislation and guidelines.
