Director, Assistant General Counsel

We are seeking a Director, Assistant General Counsel to join our Legal and Compliance team in San Francisco (or remotely). We are growing our team to meet the expanding needs of our company and our members. Product and payments legal work will be an integral part of meeting those needs! In this role, you will lead a team of attorneys focused on product counseling. You and your team will empower our product and payments teams, accelerate their work, and partner closely with our compliance team. You will advise and work collaboratively with our product, engineering, business, and marketing teams to support our fast growing business.

In this role, you can expect to Â
- Develop and implement a comprehensive plan for the product counseling team; build and scale the team to facilitate Chime’s growth.Â
- Help design processes for legal review and launch of new products.
- Facilitate innovative products and services in a complex regulatory arena.
- Counsel the product, engineering, and design teams on issues such as regulatory, consumer protection, marketing, and data privacy.
- Work cross-functionally with marketing teams to ensure marketing is consistent with applicable laws and regulations and industry best practices.
- Think strategically and creatively to anticipate issues and solve problems for cross-functional partners as they advance product issues.
To thrive in this role, you have     Â
- JD degree with 15+ years of combined relevant legal experience in a law firm and an in-house legal department with a technology company (bonus if at a fintech company).
- Experience scaling legal processes and leading teams with a fast growing company. Passionate about developing team members and love of helping others on the team thrive.
- Broad legal knowledge that enables you to spot and resolve a variety of legal issues across multiple arenas (e.g., regulatory, contract, IP, privacy, consumer protection).
- Experience enabling the launches of innovative products and services, including in regulated industries such as financial services, insurance, etc.
- Experience creatively solving problems, taking into account legal risk and business needs.
- Attention to detail and the ability to follow through in a fast-paced environment.
- A team player mindset (no job is too big or too small); a collaborative approach and demonstrated ability to work well under pressure, cross-functionally, and independently.
