Legal Counsel at Checkout.com:
Checkout.com is seeking a talented Legal Counsel with crypto experience and a strong commercial background to join our Legal team. We are looking for someone with a particular passion for the rapidly evolving crypto industry, having either worked in-house in a crypto company or for a third-party service provider to the crypto industry.
As Legal Counsel you will work closely with all areas of the business and take a consultative and collaborative approach to solving complex legal, regulatory and business issues. The successful candidate will be able to lead across a diverse range of global challenges, demonstrating excellent critical judgement with a hands-on approach.
You will be joining a rapidly growing team in one of Europe's most valuable FinTechs. The Checkout Legal team's mission is to be a legal team that exceeds expectations. We do this by providing trusted advice and balancing risk management by fusing high performance, innovation, collaboration and integrity. We are at the cutting-edge of Checkout.com’s hypergrowth and need to enable the business whilst managing risk: meaning we are creative; pragmatic and dynamic.
About You:
- You are a mid-level lawyer (around 7+ PQE)
- You have previous commercial experience with a particular focus on the crypto industry
- You are excited to work in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
- You have previously worked in-house (including on secondment)
- You can work autonomously and independently but are also comfortable working collaboratively as part of a team
- You enjoy working closely with other lawyers, particularly in developing junior team members
- You have great communication skills and can explain complex legal issues clearly and simply
- You pick up new legal concepts quickly and have a common-sense approach
- You have a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
- You are open-minded, adaptable and willing to accept new challenges
What you will be doing:
- You will be responsible for leading on all matters relating to crypto: from onboarding crypto merchants to ensuring our ongoing understanding and compliance with the changing regulatory landscape, while working closely with our compliance and risk teams
- You will (as required) head up and build out the global crypto Legal function at Checkout.com
- You will lead complex and bespoke negotiations with our crypto merchants, in tandem with our sales team
- You will support on a wide variety of commercial agreements, including customised customer contracts, strategic partnerships, complex business deals and third-party supplier contracts
- You will drive change and continuous improvement within the Legal team and the wider business. Including collaborating closely on complex and novel cross-functional and international projects
- You will proactively improve processes, self-help material and other training guides; both for the team and the business
- You will provide advice and support for other members of the team and the wider business; ensuring we always focus on empowering and developing other team members
- You will help the business launch new products, always ensuring that Checkout.com remains compliant with legal and regulatory requirements
- You will help the business continue to expand internationally; manage global legal risk while providing creative, proactive and results orientated advice
- You will work across the business and be prepared to deal with any legal issue that might arise
