Corporate Counsel, Litigation
About the role:
You will manage Enova’s litigation and support its lending and other businesses. You are expected to have (or to develop) an in-depth understanding of the consumer and commercial finance laws and regulations that affect the company’s financial services businesses. What you'll be doing:
Litigation Management:
- Manage and direct the response of Enova on litigation, claims and disputes in areas that include general litigation, commercial and consumer disputes, labor, HR and regulatory matters;
- Select, supervise and direct outside counsel in routine and complex litigation and collaborate with counsel to develop and execute on enterprise and case-specific litigation strategies;
- Investigate the facts and merits of each case and recommend the most effective approach to defense or prosecution;
- Oversee discovery, including working with business clients and outside counsel to respond to interrogatories and collect documents;
- Advise business leaders on litigation strategy and dispute resolution, and collaborate with leaders to drive desired outcomes; and
- Track all threatened, active and settled litigation and monitor for trends and patterns.
Regulatory Compliance
- Interpret existing and new laws and regulations and provide guidance to business teams;
- Perform legal research and draft memoranda for senior attorneys and business clients;
- Counsel business partners on legal and compliance risks and collaborate to find optimal business solutions while minimizing risk; and
- Work closely with business and technology teams to implement legal/regulatory changes.
We're excited about you if you have:
- A Juris Doctorate and top academic credentials from an accredited law school and admittance in good standing with at least one state bar
- 2-6 years of relevant experience at a law firm and/or as in-house counsel
- Experience in consumer financial services or working at an e-commerce company is a plus; interest in developing an in-depth understanding of consumer financial services and industry is a must
- The ability to analyze state and federal law and provide concise analysis to business partners
- Sound judgment, critical thinking and solid negotiation skills
- The capability and flexibility to develop new areas of expertise and the confidence to quickly learn and develop independence in key practice areas
- The ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and balance a heavy workload
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with business partners
- The ideal candidate will be dynamic, self-motivated and able to work independently and with a team
