Associate Privacy Counsel
About the roleÂ
Chime is looking to add an attorney to its growing Privacy Team. The Associate Privacy Counsel will work cross-functionally with marketing, security, engineering, product, and member support teams to ensure that privacy is embedded in all that Chime does for its members, and that we remain compliant with all applicable privacy and data security laws and regulations. The Associate Privacy Counsel will be particularly focused on ensuring appropriate data security and privacy safeguards are in place across the entire vendor, BPO, and third-party ecosystem. Â
This job cannot be performed in the state of Colorado.
In this role, you can expect to
- Manage data protection and privacy language in contractual agreements and support commercial attorneys in drafting and negotiating data protection and privacy terms.
- Partner with vendor management, third-party risk, security, and commercial legal teams to understand data flows and ensure data is appropriately protected at all stages.
- Work cross-functionally across the organization to develop and help manage privacy impact assessments and ensure that privacy by design is embedded in everything Chime does to support its members, with a particular emphasis on data processing by vendors and third parties.
- Develop and conduct both general and role-specific privacy trainings and stay abreast of regulatory and industry trends in privacy and security laws.
- Help maintain and update privacy and security policies and notices.
To thrive in this role, you have
- 3+ years of privacy law experience, with an emphasis on drafting and negotiating privacy and security terms in commercial contracts.
- Interest in and understanding of technology and comfort understanding and using technical terminology.
- Willingness and interest in taking on new and additional responsibilities as Chime grows and the Privacy Team takes on new challenges.
- Ability to go beyond just providing legal advice and help craft processes and procedures for business teams while advising on risks and providing practical options for mitigating those risks.
- A CIPP, CIPM, or other privacy or security certification, strongly preferred.
