Job Description

  • Opportunity to lead design across the Qantas Book and Manage domain
  • Create digital services that uplift our customer’s experience when booking and preparing to fly
  • Full-time permanent position based at our Head Office in Mascot, Sydney

We've always been pioneers, and we're proud to see that spirit in our people today. Our resilience has helped us through good and tough times, and it still drives us to keep pushing challenging expectations today. Join a growing design practice shaping the future of travel. We're designing integrated customer experiences across digital, physical and human touchpoints, grounded in empathy, powered by creativity and fueled by purpose.

The Qantas Book and Manage team is responsible for the primary booking channel that customers use when purchasing travel directly from us, as well as the manage booking experience that supports them up to the day of travel.

As Lead Designer, you will lead the end-to-end design of Qantas’ booking and manage experiences, ensuring they are seamless, intuitive, and aligned across all touchpoints. While your primary focus will be web and mobile experiences, you will also collaborate across the Qantas App, conversational interfaces, and other customer touchpoints to deliver a cohesive and customer-centric experience that helps customers when choosing, purchasing and managing their travel with us.

You will be responsible for:

  • Leading end-to-end design. Oversee the product design lifecycle - from discovery through to delivery – applying user research, customer and commercial insights, interaction design and high-fidelity designs, to ensure consistent, usable and seamless interactions across multiple touchpoints
  • Human-centered design execution. Execute human-centred design processes that incorporate customer research and insights, testing and data analysis as guardrails to optimise transactional and servicing experiences, while effectively managing the technical complexity of airline booking technology, payments and modern airline retailing.
  • Design planning and strategy. Own and drive the design planning process, balancing short-term delivery needs with long-term design strategy across multiple delivery squads
  • Team leadership and management. Lead, manage and mentor other product designers to ensure quality and consistency of deliverables, fostering a high-performance, collaborative design culture. Contribute to scalable design practices across the Airline Design team.
  • Cross functional collaboration. Partner with product managers, engineers, service designers, commercial and marketing teams, and senior leadership to align on the product vision. Champion customer needs by leading workshops, design sprints, and stakeholder sessions, balancing user expectations with business objectives to drive impactful solutions.
  • Quality and design standards. Ensure the quality and consistency of design output through regular reviews and the enforcement of design guidelines, best practice, accessibility guidelines (WCAG 2.0 AA) and design systems.

You’ll have:

  • Tertiary qualification in Design, HCI, Psychology, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience as a Senior Product Designer or Lead Designer, with a track record of successfully leading complex enterprise product design projects.
  • Deep expertise in human-centered design, research, and UX methodologies, with experience working in agile environments.
  • A strong portfolio showcasing your design process, creative thinking, and solutions to complex design challenges.
  • Strong facilitation and workshop skills to align cross-functional teams and drive design thinking.
  • Proven leadership experience, mentoring and developing designers while fostering an inclusive, high-performing team culture.
  • Strong ability to navigate complex technical environments, understanding how booking technology and business constraints impact design.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively support the alignment of product teams and stakeholders.
  • Strong collaboration skills to enable cross-functional teams, service designers, researchers, product managers, and business analysts, to ensure a unified design approach.
  • Proficiency in Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, and prototyping tools, along with collaboration tools like JIRA and Confluence.
  • Experience solving design problems of significant strategic importance, in large, complex organisations
  • Proficiency in accessibility and usability best practices, ensuring designs comply with WCAG 2.0 AA standards.
  • A strong sense of time management, deadlines, and the ability to adapt diverse challenges and competing priorities
