We are seeking a Landform Design Engineer to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing and advancing landform designs for oil sands mining sites, supporting both operational and closure objectives. This position offers the opportunity to work on challenging projects that shape the future of land reclamation and environmental management in the oil sands sector.Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, refine, and implement landform designs for active oil sands mining sites.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including geotechnical, hydrological, mining, and environmental specialists.
- Conduct site assessments, data analysis, and modeling to inform design decisions.
- Prepare technical reports, design drawings, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
- Support regulatory submissions and ensure designs meet all applicable standards and guidelines.
- Participate in field investigations and site monitoring as required.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and innovation in landform design practices.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
- 3-7 years of relevant experience in landform design, earthworks, or mine reclamation (oil sands experience preferred).
- Proficiency with design and modeling software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D, GIS, slope stability analysis tools).
- Strong understanding of geomorphology, hydrology, geotechnical engineering, and soil mechanics as applied to landform design.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
- Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Alberta is an asset.
- Field experience and willingness to travel to remote sites as needed.
Location and Key Details:
You will work out of Syncrude Mildred Lake in Fort McMurray, Alberta
Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
This position has been identified as security sensitive. Successful candidates must clear a criminal history check
You will be required to perform work using ladders and working on elevated work sites such as scaffolds and towers with the ability to perform in a variety of different environments both indoor and outdoor as well as within confined spaces
If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory. Relocation support will be provided
