The Role:

As we continue to grow as QuidelOrtho, we are seeking a Job Scheduling Workload Engineer, your primary responsibility will be to ensure that the various environments (Prod, non-Prod) of the Job Scheduling platform are installed, configured and working as designed. Jobs are executing successfully based on their definitions; files, directories, scheduling logs, system logs are well maintained, monitored and backed up where applicable. In addition, you will be working closely with the infrastructure team (and other teams – network, information-security) to ensure that the infrastructure that the job scheduling environments are hosted on are well maintained, and following a patch/update/maintenance schedule, right level of monitoring is in place for early detection of potential anomalies (i.e. log file full) that might arise. From a vendor perspective, you will be working closely with the vendor of the job scheduling software and their development team in responding to software bugs and anomalies that need to be addressed through deploying software service packs or upgrading software versions in pre-prod and eventually production environments.

In parallel, you will be part of a team responsible for managing the day-to-day aspects of the Job Scheduling service that includes but not limited to, the creating/testing/scheduling of batch jobs for our business application teams. Through the firm’s ticketing system, taking on requests for creating (or updating existing) new jobs based on specific requirements and eventually promoting these to the production workload platform. You are part of the team responsible for providing a job scheduling service offering to the firm’s business application requirements. 

You will be part of a team responsible for monitoring critical ticket queue ensuring calls & tickets are managed in a timely manner. You will help drive service improvement through effective metric setting and expanding the value and capabilities of the Job Scheduling service.

This is position is eligible for remote.

The Responsibilities:

  • Creating jobs/calendars/schedules per the request of the user
  • React to job failures and or system failures and respond accordingly
  • Maintain service offering documents (I.e. Policy, User Guide)
  • Perform daily system administration tasks, such as system monitoring, backup and recovery operations, and performance tuning
  • Maintain user accounts, security settings, and access controls
  • When necessary, perform software updates: Installing, configuring, and maintaining workload automation operating system versions, and related software updates
  • System administration of workload automation distributed network (install – upgrade – patching). Manage SW technical roadmap
  • Assist other groups & users in the use of IWS-agents on open systems
  • Setup, create & document procedures (Operator Instructions, DRP procedures, error documentation)
  • Execution of password and certificate recycling procedures
  • Develop and implement backup, recovery and restart procedures
  • Monitoring the workload automation network, Tune the workload automation network
  • Setup, maintain and automate procedures for password policies & certificate-based (ssl) workload automation network connections
  • Assist in maintaining and improving the workload automation network (upgrades – patching – bug fixing)
  • Assist in the installation, automation, and tuning of agents on open systems (Linux, AIX, Windows) in collaboration with other teams (security, system administrators, etc.
  • Assist in installation, configuration and tuning of workload automation distributed master(s) on AIX – Linux (SA + HA)
  • Setup + maintain standards for the workload automation network (RBAC, naming conventions, …)
  • Encourage knowledge sharing across different tiers of support aiming to maximize the first-time fix rate at the Service Desk
  • Through the effective use of a knowledge base, ensure sharing and transfer of knowledge both within the immediate team and across other teams within IT Service Delivery.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Ability to multi-task and context-switch effectively between different activities and teams.
  • Analyze system output, note abnormal results, and initiate appropriate remedial action for resolution in a timely manner.
  • Continual improvement of operational procedures and work instructions.

The Individual

  • 5+ years of technology experience of increasing scope and responsibility (e.g., scheduling)
  • Ability to think and work independently, coordinate with team members, and escalate as required to perform all tasks.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Must have the ability to resolve technical issues under pressure.
  • Be self-motivated to explore evolving technologies and identify potential opportunities for increasing your skillset.
  • Strong knowledge of Workload Automation commands. (concepts)
  • Proficient in UNIX, and Linux
  • Experience working in cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure)
  • Proficiency in Scripting (Batch/Shell/Perl).
  • Experience in programming languages (Unix, Java, etc.)
  • Experienced in other technology tools and stacks such as CI/CD, Jenkins, GitHub, Spark, and Open Source
  • System Architecture experience as it relates to the setting up of job scheduling environments
  • Experience working with Windows Server, including Active Directory
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Capable of training new/other employees in workload scheduler solution
  • ITIL certification a plus
  • Familiar with or worked with job scheduling specific to SAP systems
  • Expertise IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler or any other major job scheduling tools
  • Experience in troubleshooting and resolving scheduling issues.
  • Strong, functional knowledge of Windows, UNIX
  • Experience adding Jobs, Calendar, Actions, Events, etc. to workload scheduler solution.
  • Experience with vi Editor

  • This position interacts with all areas and levels of the company’s IT and Business organization, including Business leads and managers.

External Partners:

  • Consultants, Vendors and external customers.

The Work Environment

Works for lengthy periods of time in sitting or standing position and for lengthy periods of time using a computer. Position may require travel, up to 10%, travel includes airplane, automobile travel and overnight hotel. Salary Transparency

The salary range for this position takes into account a wide range of factors including education, experience, knowledge, skills, geography, and abilities of the candidate, in addition to internal equity and alignment with market data. At QuidelOrtho, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The salary range for this position is $95,000-$110,000 [and is bonus eligible or eligible for incentive compensation.] QuidelOrtho offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, along with a 401(k) plan, employee assistance program, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, paid time off (including sick time), and paid Holidays.
