A Brief Summary of This Position:

The Talent Management Intern will support the day-to-day activities of the Leadership Development department while working closely with members of the team. They will contribute to the business, will lead and own certain deliverables and will also be assigned to specific, meaningful projects throughout the duration of the internship including supporting development, improvement, and evaluation of talent management programs, processes, resources, and frameworks.

Valmont's internship program mission is to provide a hands-on learning experience through project work, leadership development, job shadowing and interaction with senior leadership.

Essential Functions:

  • This position reports to the Manager of Leadership Development and has no direct or indirect reports
  • Flexible schedule, work from home (opportunity to work in the office 1-2 days per week if located in Omaha/Valley area)
  • Opportunity to travel up to 10% (internationally/domestically), including overnight stays
  • Research best practices in talent management and how it applies to Valmont's business needs
  • Create or improve talent management processes/framework and resources to support talent strategy
  • Communication of plans and rollout of strategies and toolkits
  • Participates in group learning activities designed to provide a broader exposure to and understanding of the business
  • Owns 1-2 projects that will be focuses for the duration of the internship; presents key findings and recommendations to members of HR leadership


Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

  • Bachelor's Degree or progress towards Bachelor's Degree with an anticipated graduation within 9 months (Senior status)
  • Pursuit of Master's Degree or PhD in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Human Resources or similar field
  • Previous coursework in human resources, talent development, psychology, talent management, adult education, or other similar topics
  • Demonstrates understanding of and alignment to our core values of: integrity, continuous improvement, passion and delivering results
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Word and Outlook)
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a matrixed team


Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:

  • Prior experience working in a Human Resource function or similar
  • Proficient in MS Excel, Word, and Power Point
  • Presentation skills
  • Demonstrated project management skills

Working Environment and Physical Efforts:

Work is typically performed in an office setting. The incumbent is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. Opportunity to travel up to 10% (internationally/domestically), including overnight stays. Travel requirement is occasional. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. The employee is occasionally required to move about the office. Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrists rests. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds in working with large files, binders, and computer equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
