About the job
The Red Hat Engineering team is looking for a Security Developer Intern to join us next summer. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work with a team of security professionals to improve automation of information security controls through the use of Red Hat Ansible Tower. You will have access to direct experience to learn how to program in YAML to improve how Information security controls are enforced throughout the enterprise and how to create processes that adequately address security requirements necessary to protect the company and its customers. As a Security Developer Intern, you will gain experience with a variety of information security tools used to ensure security requirements.
What you will do

  • Work with a senior associate to develop code in Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform that will serve to create automation capability that directly impacts the Information Security team's ability to ensure proper deployment of security controls across the organization infrastructure
  • Define and document the implementation of new systems or new interfaces between systems impacting the security posture of the current environment
  • Determine the protection needs, i.e., security controls, that are required for information systems and networks to go securely into production environments
  • Evaluate security architectures and designs for Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) to determine the adequacy of security design and architecture proposed or provided in response to procurement requirements
  • Learn about relevant security policies, standards, and guidelines to address evolving security threats, best practices, and business needs
  • Develop and maintain positive working partnerships with stakeholders to maximize security outcomes while meeting business needs


What you will bring

  • Ability to work full-time May-August
    Currently pursuing a degree; if you have graduated, be no more than 6 months past your graduation date at the start of the internship
  • Expected graduation date within six months of internship start date
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science (completion within six months)
  • Ability to work as part of a globally distributed team using multiple communication methods to facilitate collaboration, e.g., chat, voice, video, email, etc.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to convey information effectively and professionally to a wide variety of technical and non-technical audiences
  • Basic knowledge of concepts of computer networking, Linux and other operating systems, Kubernetes and other container management systems, public cloud providers like Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and their corresponding security concepts and methodologies
  • Experience with the automation of security tooling is a plus
