Here are a few examples of what the Product Design & Research team is working on:

  • Re-thinking the 911 user experience for Dispatchers & Patrol Officers
  • In-car and on-officer software applications and hardware devices
  • Re-thinking record keeping and reporting in law enforcement
  • Real-time event coverage and mapping
  • Case building and management
  • Large scale connected device management
  • Evidence sharing with prosecutors and public defenders
  • Event re-creation
  • Drone law enforcement scenarios

Basic Qualifications

  • Actively pursuing a Bachelor's or advanced degree in Human-Centered Design, Interaction Design, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, or other related field
  • A deep understanding of a user-centered design process
  • Experience designing web and/or mobile applications as part of coursework or another internship
  • You're a phenomenal collaborator
  • You love learning and you're proactive
  • You live and breathe all things design and can't stop yourself thinking about how to improve everything around you
  • You have a portfolio available for review

What you'll learn

  • Translating business requirements and user needs into tangible user interface proposals
  • Improving information architecture, interaction and visual design skills by learning from a team of Sr. Designers and Product Design & Research leadership
  • Learning how design teams function within a company and what makes a successful designer
  • Learning UX & Design industry best practices
  • Working closely with product managers and designers to capture and act on user data
  • Learning how to conduct usability studies
  • Creating a great case study for your portfolio

What a typical day will look like

  • Meeting with stakeholders to understand user needs and business goals for a project you'll be tasked
  • Tackling an interaction design problem and get input from a Sr. Designer
  • Creating a wireframe of a meaningful task-flow
  • Attending a design team meeting and review designs from another area
  • Digesting data from a usability study and think about how to translate it into concrete user interface design improvements
  • Listening to a customer explaining their use case
  • Trying out a new interactive prototyping tools
  • Reading articles on smashing magazine about how motion is the next flat and discuss is with other designers
