Primary Responsibilities:

• You will have the opportunity to influence and contribute to mission critical projects early in your career
• Work alongside ML scientists, engineers, and project managers to design and implement models and experiments from end to end
• Implement statistical and/or machine learning approaches to support research efforts
• Ability to design and code ML solutions starting with broadly defined problems
• Improve and extend the machine learning models in our products
• Conduct hands-on data analysis and predictive analytics on large datasets
• Support machine learning and innovation efforts
• In addition to working on an impactful project, you will have the opportunity to engage with leaders for both personal and professional development, expand your network, and participate in activities with other interns throughout your internship
• Collaborate within cross-disciplinary research teams including business-facing leaders and expert domain scientists
• Provide recommendations and guidance based on insights gleaned from data

Required Qualifications:

• Pursuing a masters degree or PhD in computer science, machine learning, data science, information systems, statistics, mathematics or related field
• Must be authorized to work in the United States (F-1 students with practical training and candidates requiring H-1Bs, TNs, etc. are considered)
• Full COVID-19 vaccination is an essential requirement of this role. Candidates located in states that mandate COVID-19 booster doses must also comply with those state requirements. UnitedHealth Group will adhere to all federal, state and local regulations as well as all client requirements and will obtain necessary proof of vaccination, and boosters when applicable, prior to employment to ensure compliance

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with at least one modern language such as Python, Spark
• Hands-on experience in machine learning, deep learning modeling
• Experience in image processing, NLP and NLU
• Strong proficiency in advanced deep learning frameworks
• Experience applying computational algorithms and statistical methods to structured and unstructured data
• Experience breaking down and clearly defining problems
• Comfort working as part of a team, as opposed to solo projects
• Expected graduation date of 2024 - 2025
• Location in Seattle, WA

Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, or New York City Residents Only: The hourly range for residents is $31.78 to $56.88.
