Your Opportunity
Stantec is seeking qualified candidates for a Mineral Economist & Financial Analyst Internship position for our Salt Lake City, Utah office. This position requires an individual with broad understanding of mineral valuation and proven technical competencies to support our mining sector teams. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in providing technical and economic solutions related to mineral valuation, asset valuation, and financial analysis, as well as the ability to participate and be the economic lead on multi-disciplinary teams of engineers. The Salt Lake office is uniquely situated with a strong team of junior to mid-level professionals with great growth potential.
Your Key Responsibilities
Under the direction of another mineral economist
- Ability to design and analyze projects and properties using discounted cash flow analysis
- Ability to understand the outputs of mining programs such as Vulcan, MinePlan, Deswik, Whittle and Carlson, or similar packages and analyze the resulting financial implications of different parameters;
- Develop or assist in developing operating and capital cost estimates for a variety of mining projects
- Contains at least a basic understanding of mineral markets
- Develop or assist in developing financial models for mining projects which incorporate mine plans, waste and recoverable mineral volumes, operating costs, capital costs, indirect or overhead costs, and various taxes to arrive at net cash flows for the operation and the resulting overall project economics
- Provide financial expertise to mining and infrastructure projects;
- Understanding of contracts and various pricing structures for projects;
- Attention to detail and strong QA/QC skills;
- Understanding of project-related risks;
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Pursing a BS or MS in Mineral Economics or related field, with additional technical education or experience in mining
- Exceptional organizational, technical, leadership, written and oral communication and attention to detail skills;
- Willingness to live in the Salt Lake City area for most of the internship period
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.
