Job Description & Requirements

Spring Semester: Internship dates are approximately from January 2023 - May 2023.

JOB SUMMARY: The intern will assist management with oversight and scheduling of patent program. The intern will assist with the filing and/or conflict resolution related to patent activities, research patents, complete invoice tracking and document review. The intern will develop an understanding of patent rules and systems, intellectual property research skills, and an understanding of concise and accurate timekeeping for invoices.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides interface with outside patent attorneys.
  • Conducts prior art searches and coordinates results for in-house and outside consultants as well as patent attorneys.
  • Manages invoices, maintenance fees, and schedules for Universal patents.
  • Coordinates correspondence to and from US patent office as well as outside patent attorneys.
  • Participates in Patent award program.
  • Assists with training of Universal Team members regarding patents.
  • Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training, and Team Member involvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:
  • In pursuit of an Associate, Bachelor or Graduate degree at an Accredited Institution with current class standing of Junior or above.
  • Recent graduates will not be eligible for this program.
  • Minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA is preferred.
  • An official transcript may be required upon request.
  • Preferred majors include: Mechanical/Electrical/Industrial Engineering and Law
  • Preferred coursework include: Engineering and/or Law

EXPERIENCE: Prior internship experience related to position is preferred.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Preferable skills for success in role include but not limited to:
  • Research skills.
  • Familiarity with patent processes preferred.
  • Familiarity with mechanical, electrical audio, video, lighting, and/or architectural systems.
  • Must be efficient in Microsoft Office Programs including, but not limited to: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, problem-solving abilities and organization.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Superior written & verbal communication skills.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment and adhere to deadlines.
  • Ability to work autonomously and/or in teams.
  • Consistent attendance.

  • This internship will be an in-person experience, based in our Orlando offices.
  • Interns must be currently pursuing a degree at an accredited university and must have a graduation date later than April 2023.
  • Universal Orlando does not provide housing. Interns are responsible for their own housing and transportation.
