As a Compute and Networking Business Unit (CNBU) Memory Architecture Engineer at Micron Technology, you will develop optimized solutions that are focused on next generation datacenter/cloud, networking, and client systems. These products drive a significant portion of Micron's revenue and include DDR5, DDR6, LPDDR5x, LPDDR6 and CXL-attached memory solutions. You will develop a deep understanding of Micron's technologies and capabilities, as well as key market trends and competitive landscapes. You will be responsible for building strong technical relationships with system architects and key technologists across the industry and will represent Micron at technical conferences and consortia. Your role in those industry engagements will be to drive pathfinding discussions, influence design-in decisions and negotiate product requirements with our ecosystem partners and customers. Internally, you will partner with Micron's top R&D, Design, Test, and Product Engineers to ensure successful implementation of new product concepts. This role works closely with Product Managers and Business Development Managers to ensure that each technical decision is aligned with business objectives and strategy.
Successful candidates for this position will -
Develop a strong cross-disciplinary understanding of the full solution space, including:

  • Fabrication process - including CMOS and interconnect capabilities
  • Circuit implementations within our DRAM components
  • Blackbox functionality of DRAM devices
  • Package and module design
  • System topologies and interconnects - including details on protocols, PHY's, and signaling (SI/PI)
  • DRAM interaction with the system - especially for shared timing and power budgets
  • Processors and accelerators - CPU's, GPU's, ASIC and FPGA options
  • System-level thermal, physical and power considerations
  • Firmware / software - BIOS, OS, drivers, frameworks, applications, benchmarks


Understand customer requirements and develop new solutions for compute and networking applications

  • Understand the problems to be solved, priorities, and optimization points for customer systems
  • Analyze technology trends in the industry
  • Analyze competitive solutions
  • Identify clear value propositions
  • Develop and identify key benchmarks
  • Define and drive feasibility studies and system performance analyses
  • Support and assist successful design-in of new solutions


Own the product specifications and technical documents related to new technologies

  • Create new product concepts and intellectual property
  • Create and maintain internal product design requirements
  • Determine design targets based on required optimization points
  • Work with internal engineering teams to align product requirements to execution capabilities
  • Create and maintain customer product specifications
  • Contribute to Micron's internal technology roadmap
  • Contribute to test verification and validation plans
  • Educate and train internal groups to aide in producing new technologies


Engage with the market as a technical expert

  • Develop relationships with counterparts at key customers and ecosystem enablers
  • Participate in standards organizations to create proposals and specifications
  • Drive technical meetings with key customers and ecosystem enablers
  • Promote Micron's emerging product technologies
  • Participate and speak at industry conferences
  • Generate technical whitepapers


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of semiconductor basics and/or computer architecture
  • Knowledge in silicon development is preferred - related to specification, architecture definition, logic design, physical design, timing closure, verification, tape-out, validation, etc.
  • Knowledge in one or more of the following areas is preferred:
    • DRAM design, test or product engineering - DDR, LPDDR, HBM, GDDR
    • DRAM module design - raw cards, PMIC, DB's, RCD's, Hub, TS, etc.
    • Managed-memory - NVMe interface, non-volatile memory, ASIC, firmware, software, etc.
    • Memory hierarchy and subsystem - MMU, memory controller, cache, etc.
    • Computer architecture and hardware accelerators
    • System training, tuning, and optimization - BIOS, firmware, log configuration and analysis
    • Interconnect standards - CXL, GEN-Z, CCIX, OpenCAPI, NVMe, PCIe, OMI, etc.
    • Datacenter and enterprise workloads - virtualization, in-memory database, AI/ML, SDM
    • Performance benchmarks - SPEC CPU, MLC, MLPerf, VMmark, Memcached, TPC, etc.
    • Semiconductor quality and reliability - RAS, stress testing, fail mechanisms, etc.
  • Knowledge in using Adobe Framemaker and Adobe Illustrator preferred
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills


Education Requirements:

  • Enrolled in B.S./M.S./PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field of study
  • Candidate must not graduate before September 1, 2022
