Hours:

Flexible; Between 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.

15-20 hours per week depending on the applicant's schedule

More hours available in summer (up to 40 hours per week)

This internship will give the qualified candidate an opportunity to obtain valuable experience.

Job Objective:

Provides excellent customer service to agents, insureds, claimant, and others contacting the Berkshire Hathaway Homestate Companies or the National Indemnity group of insurance companies.

Duties in the Client Services Department include:

  • Answers incoming customer phone calls to the Company main lines and resolves most basic issues and questions. May assist and/or research the needs of callers and route calls to the appropriate department or individual to handle. If appropriate, may provide contact information for Berkshire Hathaway affiliates.
  • Supports the billing team by responding to basic agent and insured email inquiries for the direct bill business.
  • Supports the claims team by responding to basic agent emails and activities through communications with customers and underwriting to support the efficiencies of the claim process.
  • Supports the technical support team by responding to basic agent and insured emails for password resets. Assists agency compliance in the set-up of new agents and agency partners.
  • Assists with the collection and analysis of call and job task data.
  • Performs other Client Services duties as assigned.


During this internship, the student will gain:

  • Knowledge of fundamental principles of insurance including commercial auto and property
  • Insurance billing concepts
  • Insurance claim concepts
  • Basic technical support troubleshooting techniques for insurance software
  • Customer Service techniques for the business professional


Requirements:

  • Sophomore, Junior or Senior
  • Business major and maintain full-time course load during internship
  • Proficiency with personal computers and software such as Excel and Word
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent phone skills
  • Excellent organization skills
  • Confident
  • Ability to meet deadlines
