SWBC is seeking talented students to join our College Intern Program in San Antonio, Texas. This is an exciting opportunity for college students who are motivated and eager to learn within their educational field of study.

As a Security Intern, you will gain practical hands-on experience and training that will provide an opportunity for growth, learning and development within the financial services industry. This is a full-time and part-time paid internship opportunity.

The Application Security Intern supports SWBC's Application Security Program by helping employ industry best practices and approved frameworks to lower our risk. The intern supports an enterprise-wide program to identify vulnerabilities, verify risk, and tracks vulnerabilities to remediation within our technical vulnerability program. The intern will help apply security principles and controls within the software development lifecycle (SDLC), monitor and enforce security controls in development and production environments, track the effectiveness of software and application security and supporting systems and infrastructure, and monitor application security training for developers. The intern supports software asset management and to help review third-party developed software and applications to include supporting systems and infrastructure, commercial software, applications, cloud services, and open source applications and software.

Essential duties include the following:

  • Conducts security vulnerability scanning of applications and supporting.
  • Completes security reviews and assessments for applications and cloud-hosted services
  • Inventories and reviews applications and software to categorize each application and software product into levels of criticality, based on the importance of the application to the business.
  • Supports enterprise risk assessments of Company owned or controlled infrastructure, platforms, software, or applications.
  • Monitors security devices (i.e. web application firewalls) to detect application security threats and supports security incident response team actions as appropriate.
  • Supports efforts to audit and assess application security program effectiveness by, with, and through internal and external stakeholders, clients, business partners, and vendors
  • Records requests, incidents, and resolutions accurately into the ticketing or project management systems.
  • Learns key technical skills to apply acquired knowledge and assist in problem solving.
  • Gains practical, hands on experience that will provide an opportunity for growth.
  • Works alongside and shadow team members while expanding your knowledge base with the ability to further develop your skills.
  • Assists the team in the tuning, optimizing and deployment of security tool set.



Serious candidates will possess the minimum qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing an MIS Bachelor's degree at an accredited university/college; Cyber Security preferred.
  • While most internships are 40 hours a week during the summer, some may be available for those only able to work part time due to other obligations.
  • Has a passion and desire for learning and a proactive energy for getting things done.
  • Expected graduation date of December 2021 or later.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills required.
  • Detail oriented and possess excellent follow up skills.
  • Organized and adapts well to change.
  • Able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
  • Able to display maturity and a high level of professionalism.
  • Able to obtain a letter of recommendation from a MIS department professor.
