Data Scientist

Job description

  • This position is part of the Data Science & Analytics chapter responsible for providing Data Science and Machine Learning Engineering expertise and solution delivery across Chevron.
  • The function of this role is to partner with the business to identify opportunities to apply data science approaches and create data science products that deliver business value.
  • The successful candidate that fills this position will have the skills to identify, prototype, and build data science products.



Key responsibilities

  • Identify and frame opportunities to apply advanced analytics, modeling, and related technologies to data to help Chevron businesses gain insight and improve decision making, workflow, and automation. Understand value of proposed opportunity.
  • Identify data necessary and appropriate technology to solve business challenges identified.
  • Clean data, develop models, and test models.
  • Establish the life cycle management process for models.
  • Participate in the Chevron Global Internship Program, including learning, mentoring, and networking events.



Machine Learning Engineer

Job description

  • This position is part of the Data Science & Analytics chapter responsible for providing Data Science and Machine Learning Engineering (MLE) expertise and solution delivery across Chevron. The function of this role is to partner with the business to identify opportunities to apply MLE techniques to achieve greater business value, faster.

  • We are looking for a Machine Learning Engineering Intern with the ability to bring their expertise, innovative attitude, and excitement for solving complex problems with new technologies and approaches. Key responsibilities

  • Consult, identify and frame opportunities to implement AI solutions that help Chevron businesses gain insight and improve decision making, workflow, and automation
  • Identify data, appropriate technology, and architectural design patterns to solve business challenges using analytical tools and AI design patterns and architectures
  • Partner with Data Scientists and Chevron IT Foundational services to implement complex algorithms and models into enterprise scale machine learning pipelines
  • Passionate about data & model quality, provenance, and lifecycle management, helping establish a ML Ops centric culture within our Data Science and Engineering teams
  • Build machine learning and deep learning systems optimized for scalability and performance
  • Consistently deliver complex, innovative, and complete solutions, driving them through design, planning, development, and deployment that simplify business processes and workflows to drive business value
  • Work collaboratively with a large variety of different teams, including data scientists, data engineers, and solution architects from various organizations within business units and IT
  • Transform data science prototypes into appropriate scale solutions in a production environment
  • Orchestrate and configure infrastructure that assists Data Scientists and analysts in building low latency, scalable and resilient machine learning, and optimization workloads into an enterprise software product
  • Run machine learning experiments and fine-tune algorithms to ensure optimal performance
  • Participate as an active member in embedded Agile team to enable cross training and keep skills current

Business Intelligence Analyst

Job description

  • This position is part of the Data Science & Analytics chapter responsible for providing Data Science and Analytics expertise and solution delivery across Chevron.
  • The function of this role is understanding data in the larger context of the business and the value chain to transform data into insights for better decision-making through scientific exploration, analytics, and data.
  • The Business Intelligence Analyst is accountable for leading data analytics initiatives within Chevron business by performing data analysis, translating data requirements to technical requirements, and driving insights to business problems and decisions.



Key responsibilities

  • Access, gather, and analyze data from source systems
  • Gain an in-depth understanding of business problems
  • Help frame the business problem by providing quantitative and qualitative data analysis (data quality, availability, etc.)
  • Drive insights to business problems by visualizing the data and telling a story through data (report patterns, trends, anomalies, etc.)
  • Participates in the end-to-end product development lifecycle as a member of agile team:
  • Contribute to data analysis, data wrangling, data visualization, and user acceptance testing
  • Present findings and new development to help refine backlog items
  • Participate in the Chevron Global Internship Program, including learning, mentoring, and networking events.



Required education / degrees

  • Currently enrolled in bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, Data Science, Management Information Systems, or related Engineering degree

Required qualifications / certifications

Data Scientist

  • Demonstrated depth in advanced analytics / data science technologies (e.g., machine learning, operations research, statistics, data mining); experience implementing advanced analytics projects; working knowledge of Microsoft Azure and tools in its ecosystem; proficiency in Python and R.
  • Fundamental understanding of business and ability to collaborate and build relationships across the organization to apply data science analytics to improve workflows and deliver information and insight to support business decisions.
  • Ability to communicate in a clear, concise, and understandable manner both orally and in writing. Listens carefully and asks questions to understand the views, concerns, and comments of others.



Machine Learning Engineer

  • Demonstrated Software Engineering background. Working knowledge of mathematics (primarily linear algebra, probability, statistics), and algorithms. Working knowledge of machine learning frameworks and machine learning libraries. Demonstrated ability to proactively learn new technologies quickly that help deliver AI solutions.
  • Ability to engage business and technical experts at all organizational levels and assess opportunities to apply machine learning and analytics to improve their workflows and deliver information and insight to support business decisions.
  • Ability to communicate in a clear, concise, and understandable manner both orally and in writing. Listens carefully and asks questions to understand the views, concerns, and comments of others.
  • Experience in Object Oriented Design and Programming
  • Python development experience



Preferred skills / competencies

Data Scientist & Business Intelligence Analyst

  • Awareness of current and emerging trends in data science and artificial intelligence
  • School, work experiences or exposure in linear programming optimization, deep learning, or computer vision is a plus.



Machine Learning Engineer

  • Excellent skills in statistics and machine learning applied to timeseries data analysis
  • Experience implementing machine learning frameworks and libraries (e.g. ML Flow, Kubeflow, Tensorflow. Keras scikit-learn, PyTorch, NumPy, SciPy, etc.)
  • Development experience with a JavaScript framework (Angular, React, node.js etc.)
  • Object-oriented programming and debugging skills in Python
  • A keen eye for good architecture and the ability to develop new architectures and frameworks
  • Passionate and detailed approach to software development
  • Proven ability to take leadership role in projects that span multiple teams, ability to deliver on time working in a fast-paced agile environment, ability to work with product managers to clarify and prune requirements, strong verbal, and written communication
