Summary:

The Summer College Internship Program is a 10-week, paid internship experience that provides undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to attend development workshops, network, and be part of our company. Our college interns work on meaningful projects, are mentored under their respective managers, and continue to develop throughout the entire summer. In addition, through the internship program, our interns can attend development workshops that are focused on key business concept. Interns may work within the skills-based tracks of Business Administration, Information Technology, Actuarial, Human Resources, Analytics & Data, Communications, Finance, Marketing & Sales, Project Management, Clinical Studies, Customer Experience, Digital Operations, and other non-technical and/or technical based degree programs.

  • This is a paid 10-week summer internship from the first Monday in June to the second Friday in August (up to 40 hours per week).

  • May reside in either a technical or non-technical area.

  • Development events are provided to help with the transition from school to the corporate environment.

  • Housing is not provided as part of our program.

Essential Accountabilities:

  • Interns will be responsible for completing a project set forth by their supervisor. Projects will involve skills such as: programming, data analysis, and model building and updating. Interns should have a desire to learn and contribute to the departments they support. A sample project description is given below:
    Utilize a variety of available applications and tools (SAS, VBA, PowerBI, Adobe, and Excel) to create a competitive intelligence database of information submitted to the New York Department of Financial Services by all Insurers of Small Group and Individual ACA business.  Information will be collected from public sources, saved locally and synthesized into a consistent, clean, usable data source.  Information will then by analyzed and reported on to assess the competitive environment of each of these markets.

  • Works with a mentor and supports key strategic projects.

  • Responsible for work assignments and possible responsibilities that vary according to business need and departmental opportunities, in addition to student's qualifications.

  • Functions performed are non-technical and/or technical in nature and will cover a broad range of business-related projects.

  • Creates and delivers presentation at completion of internship.

  • Consistently demonstrates high standards of integrity by supporting the Lifetime Healthcare Companies' mission and values, adhering to the Corporate Code of Conduct, and leading to the Lifetime Way values and beliefs.

  • Maintains high regard for member privacy in accordance with the corporate privacy policies and procedures.

  • Regular and reliable attendance is expected and required.

  • Performs other functions as assigned by management.

Actuarial Specific:

  • Assists in the development of rate or Medicare bid filings through analysis of benefit designs, claims experience, and expected future events.

  • Assists in preparation of accurate and timely trend analyses.

  • Assists in the development of preliminary reserve and future claim liabilities for internal and regulatory reporting.

  • Supports the analysis of impacts to the health plan in response to regulatory changes.

  • Assists in the preparation of risk adjustment analyses.

  • Supports risk sharing analyses, capitation development, and associated settlements.

  • Assists in performing analyses used in the development of financial planning, forecasting and other financial projections.

  • Prepares and/or maintains appropriate documentation of work.

  • Completes and/or supports ad-hoc analyses and projects and assists others in the department as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

Desired majors include:

High School diploma along with proof of continuous college enrollment (enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or graduate degree program).

  • Our ideal candidate will have the following experience: familiarity with Excel and basic programming is desired.

  • Desired Majors include math, statistics, actuarial science and/or related majors.

  • Must be in good academic standing.

  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written with the ability to communicate to technical and non-technical audiences and interface with staff at all levels of the company.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced changing environment and deliver high quality work product.

  • Ability to work well in a team establishing good working relationships with peers.

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks with a strong attention to detail.

  • Experience using a desktop computer in a professional environment.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Demonstrates strong organizational and prioritization skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Proactive approach to work, displaying creativity and flexibility in completing assigned tasks.

  • Commitment to continuous improvement of skills and team functioning.

  • Must be self-motivated and able to work independently, as well as on intra- and inter- departmental teams where needed.

Actuarial-Specific:

  • Desired majors include Mathematics, Economics, Actuarial, & Statistics.

  • Accurate and concise writing style.

  • Attention to detail and multitasking skills necessary.

  • Experience conducting communications work outside of the classroom.

  • Candidates should have an ongoing commitment to continuous improvement of their own skill and team functioning.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work while sitting and/or standing at a workstation viewing a computer and using a keyboard, mouse and/or phone for three (3) or more hours at a time.

  • Ability to travel across the Health Plan service region for meetings and/or trainings as needed.

Compensation Range(s):

Minimum $18.00/hr - Maximum $20.00/hr

The salary range indicated in this posting represents the minimum and maximum of the salary range for this position. Actual salary will vary depending on factors including, but not limited to, budget available, prior experience, knowledge, skill and education as they relate to the position’s minimum qualifications, in addition to internal equity. The posted salary range reflects just one component of our total rewards package. Other components of the total rewards package may include participation in group health and/or dental insurance, retirement plan, wellness program, paid time away from work, and paid holidays.
