MUFG’s sustainability programme in EMEA is formed of five workstreams: ESG Business Coordination and Strategy, Risk Management, Policy and Advocacy, Corporate Sustainability, and ESG Disclosures. The five workstreams are responsible for driving MUFG’s sustainability objectives in EMEA while managing associated risks. The Corporate Sustainability workstream is responsible for defining and overseeing the execution of the sustainability strategy of MUFG EMEA’s operations and upstream value chain, with the objectives to reduce our carbon emissions, manage our other environmental impacts and manage sustainability risks in our supply chain. The Corporate Sustainability workstream is also responsible for the human rights framework for the EMEA region.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE 

The main purpose of this role is to support the corporate sustainability workstream objectives, including but not limited to the development and ongoing maintenance of a human rights framework for MUFG operations in the EMEA region. This will involve working closely with the Director, Corporate Sustainability and key stakeholders across departments, regions and affiliates to align and leverage approaches. The role will operate across Bank and Securities.

The role will also be responsible for supporting the integration of sustainability into our supplier frameworks and acting as a point of contact for sustainability topics during the supplier lifecycle.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the Director, Corporate Sustainability to coordinate the development and implementation of a Human Rights Framework for MUFG EMEA in line with our EMEA Corporate Sustainability Programme and MUFG Group Sustainability Strategy (including group policy frameworks), and subsequent transition into BAU activities.
  • Act as a Human Rights SME for MUFG, monitor regulatory developments and industry best practice in human rights due diligence to inform the development and maturing of the the human rights framework in the region.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders on the progress, status updates and escalations of any risks and issues for deliverables related to the human rights framework.
  • Act as the sustainability point of contact for the supplier lifecycle, including reviewing supplier responses to sustainability requirements and communicate risks to relevant stakeholders for their approval.
  • Supporting the Director, Corporate Sustainability with developing and articulating business cases for various sustainability initiatives. Drawing out the evaluation of options, incorporating both commercial as well as sustainability considerations.
  • Supporting on the implementation of agreed projects/deliverables including developing plans, preparing deliverables, and leading on communication with key stakeholders.
  • Support the preparation of reporting & MI for the Corporate Sustainability Steering Committee, the Sustainability Committee, other relevant committees and other ongoing reporting requirements.
  • Keep up to date on sustainability topics and emerging regulations relevant to the Corporate Sustainability workstream.
  • Support with communications strategy to promote MUFG’s sustainability strategy within the EMEA region.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Essential:

  • Experience evaluating the sustainability performance of companies.
  • Experience delivering change projects within multijurisdictional organisation

Preferred:

  • Experience of working on development of Human Rights or Sustainability frameworks
  • Familiarity with procurement and/or client onboarding processes.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Functional / Technical Competencies:

Essential

  • Experience of working across multiple business areas, including client and vendor processes
  • Understanding of UN Declaration of Human Rights and best practice for how organisations can demonstrate their commitment

Preferred:

  • Experience analysing data, identifying sustainability related risks and recommending remediation activities.
  • Understanding of environment related risks

Education / Qualifications:

Essential

  • Degree level or equivalent experience
