If you are, we think you’ll be a great candidate for our new HR Planning and Program manager position.

This highly visible role will report to the CHRO. It’s a strategic but hands-on role that is critical for planning and executing a portfolio of strategic initiatives within the HR executive team that have impacts across the company. You will lead the team in planning, developing, executing, and tracking initiatives that align with and support Protective’s people and culture strategic priorities and Employee Value Proposition.


In addition to management and thoughtful execution of initiatives, this role will be key in appropriately engaging both business and HR stakeholders, leading our change management efforts, and program communications. You’ll plan and facilitate HR team management routines and will coordinate the budgeting and expense management process.


This role can be in our Birmingham, AL office, Hybrid, or work from home if within reasonable driving distance to the office. It will require a presence in the office for key strategic meetings and relationship building.

Key responsibilities

  • Management of Strategic Initiatives: Partners with the CHRO and CHRO direct reports to lead planning, development, execution and tracking of people and culture related strategies with rigor and pace. Builds and maintains an enterprise-wide view of the needs required to satisfy people and culture related strategic priorities. Ensures priorities are clear and driving realization of program goals in a manner that is complimentary with organizational culture, supports the desired employee experience, and can be repeated and sustained. Identifies cross-functional and cross-organizational dependencies, engages appropriate business and HR stakeholders, and stages initiatives to ensure all workstreams and resources are appropriately aligned to execute within agreed upon timelines and budget. Develops communications and appropriate protocols including facilitating and organizing meetings.
  • Drives Employee Experience: Partners with HR team members to create and continually evolve employee journey maps in support of Protective’s Employee Value Proposition. Identifies gaps between aspirational experiences and current state, working with appropriate team members and business leaders to develop initiatives that address these gaps and identify / develop future state needs to support an evolving workforce. Creates experience proof points to support our evolving employee expectations across a distributed, Future of Work environment. Ensures employee experience is at the forefront of strategic planning and future state design.
  • Leads Change Management and Program Communications: Identifies relevant change management needs and needed cultural shifts. Works with project owners to develop effective and innovative change management programs and communications to ensure successful execution, implementation, and adoption of people and culture related strategic initiatives. Routinely prepares and delivers executive level communications, reports, and general updates to various stakeholders.
  • Plans and Facilitates HR team Operating Rhythms and Management Routines: Works with the CHRO to plan agendas and facilitate operating rhythms and meetings including HR leadership meetings, staff meetings, strategic planning, ongoing prioritization, and other meetings as may be appropriate to facilitate the needs of the department.
  • Facilitates Budget and Expense Management Processes: Coordinates administrative processes such as budgeting and expense management through monitoring, reporting, and planning activities.

  • Ability to analyze data and understand key metrics (financial measures, demographics, attrition/ retention rates, talent pipelines, etc.) in order to develop insights, tell stories, drive decisions, and measure the impact of the work you do
  • Curiosity and drive to learn, explore possibilities, and deliver value
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with extreme discretion

Qualifications

  • Experience successfully delivering large, cross functional projects through the full lifecycle.
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks and to organize workloads across various workstreams and teams.
  • Experience developing relationships, building consensus, and influencing decision making across groups of diverse stakeholders at all levels of the organization. Strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence, with the ability to think about business problems in new ways, clarify and resolve key issues in complex situations, and being comfortable with ambiguity.
  • Experience in journey mapping and/or Design Thinking.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing, initiating, and leading significant change efforts.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience. 

Preferred Qualification

  • Strong across-the-board functional HR knowledge including compensation/total rewards, talent management, performance management, compliance, and organization design and development.
  • Experience implementing and supporting key HR initiatives.
  • Experience with Agile concepts; working with teams to deliver value early
  • Professional in Human Resources (PHR) Certification
  • Agile, Lean Six Sigma or PMP certification
  • Experience working in distributed team environment with multiple time zones
