Grid is a new, digital media company dedicated to reporting on how the most important trends, challenges and opportunities of the day connect to one another – and require connected solutions. The biggest stories we tell do not exist in silos, so neither do the reporters at Grid. We’ve built a collaborative newsroom of beat reporters, subject editors and data journalists who produce daily interconnected stories written from multiple lenses, including science, economics, misinformation, politics, the law, technology, identity, and global.

Grid’s approach to journalism relies on the expertise of subject-matter professionals, including current and former government officials, academics, scientists, corporate and nonprofit leaders, public opinion pollsters, political players across the ideological spectrum, advocates, and people with relevant lived experiences.

We want to create a network of these talented people to help Grid fulfil its commitment to telling stories across traditional beat lines. Beyond written contributions to the site, our goal is to bring these diverse experts together and integrate them into the newsroom in a variety of ways, including as traditional sources, participants in internal and external events, advisors and more.

We are hiring an Editorial Talent Manager to build this network and experiment with how experts can improve our work across platforms in new ways. The manager must love ideas and appreciate all kinds of expertise. The job requires an eye for identifying talent, particularly talent that is too often overlooked, and the interpersonal and management skills to bring these people into the Grid network of contributors.

Grid is still in its infancy. The manager of Grid’s editorial talent network will play a key role in defining a crucial part of our newsroom and business. It’s an ideal job for someone who is excited about building something new.

What You'll Do:

  • Build a network of varied experts to be affiliated with Grid in different ways, as outlined above
  • Work with editors and reporters to identify talented people across subject matter expertise
  • Identify and introduce new experts to the newsroom
  • Plan and execute internal conversations with journalists and experts
  • Suggest voices for events whose work connects in unexpected ways
  • Comfort in pitching, cold calling and establishing a pipeline of talent
  • Work independently and throughout the newsroom to identify holes of freelance and contributor talent, and then work to fill those needs
  • Keep up to date on trending topics and new voices, ensuring we have coverage and talent to call upon in real time

What You'll Need:

  • This is a position that could draw candidates from a wide variety of backgrounds. Broadcast journalism; think tanks; freelance special events professionals.)
  • BA/BS degree required
  • Media, newsroom, or talent booking experience a plus
  • Experience working in in fast paced setting
  • Ability to work independently
  • To be passionate about digital media and the power of journalism
  • Entrepreneurial attitude and excited by the opportunities of a start-up environment
  • Excellent communication, time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong work ethic, professionalism, and enthusiasm
  • Strong Excel and PowerPoint / Keynote skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure
