JOB SUMMARY:
Do you want to design, build, and implement strategic learning and development products and programs to make Flexport the premier destination for people? If you do, then we have the right role for you. As a single-threaded leader for Global Learning & Development this role provides an exciting opportunity to contribute your experience and passion for all things learning in a complex and global business. This individual will lead and direct a team of L&D professionals who create, run and facilitate learning initiatives, products, services, and programs and will work closely with Flexport’s Executive Team. This role will report into the VP, People & Org Development and will be part of the People leadership team.
This individual will lead the work of L&D professions to define, build, implement, facilitate and run progressive and industry-defining L&D practices. They will serve as the primary lead for all people development and will work with HR teams to execute the following: Onboarding via Flexport Academy, Manager and Executive Development, Functional and Competency-connected development. They will work with their team to define, build, refine, and implement progressive and industry-defining learning practices that support the overall Flexport company, globally.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
The ideal candidate plays the role of L&D strategist shaping innovative business-focused learning programs and initiatives through data and science. The candidate should understand how a center of excellence operates, possess an innate ability to hire and develop great people, inspire and motivate those around them, have relentlessly high standards, has a data driven approach with strong analytical skills, and think strategically with the ability to see around corners. The candidate should possess deep functional knowledge of core L&D areas preferably with experience in leading L&D, Talent Management, Organization Development, or HR Business Partner teams. The candidate should be self-driven and possess the ability to work in an ambiguous and global environment with minimal guidance or supervision.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Build a high-performing global learning & development organization aligned with the business that delivers innovative learning initiatives, products and services
- Lead the development and implementation of BU-aligned learning & development plans and solutions in order to achieve strategic business initiatives.
- Partner with executives, People Business Partners and leaders to define and establish a long-term strategic L&D plan
- Review business and talent themes and trends and integrate them into a holistic global L&D strategy for the business
- Create processes that connect to current talent rhythms and once talent is identified, be able to curate developmental experiences specific to the needs
- Lead efforts to identify appropriate metrics to measure effectiveness of L&D programs, products and services
- Collaborate and engage with HR leaders to design and implement programs with a global impact. Recognize and adapt global best practices as appropriate.
- Enable a mindset and culture of continuous improvement at the highest levels of the company.
- Lead, manage, and scale the L& D team to support Flexport, including program support, cross-company programs, and L&D analytics and research.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 15 + years of HR experience in a fast-paced environment.
- 10 + years managing high-performing teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Organizational Development, Industrial/Organizational Psychology and/or an MBA highly preferred.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in Human Resources Management, Organizational Development, Industrial/Organizational Psychology and/or an MBA highly preferred.
- Has strong decision-making skills and able to operate with significant autonomy and discretion.
- Ability to think big to deliver innovative learning solutions and possess the convictions and ability to bring others along on the journey.
- Strong ability to prioritize and understand constraints in customer and business teams.
- A strong portfolio of work demonstrating skills and breadth of work across multiple HR disciplines.
- Ability to work in a highly ambiguous environment and interest in supporting a global team across multiple time zones.
- Ability to figure things out without a road map, transform organizations, as well as break the mold in terms of ways to re-frame and solve problems.
- Possess a high level of integrity, judgment, and discretion in handling confidential information.
- Ability to handle responsibilities independently, while exercising good judgment in problem solving and keeping team members adequately informed.
- Strong ability to analyze data to solve complex business problems.
- Ability to influence and collaborate with different levels of the organization to achieve results, including senior leadership.
- Ability to work efficiently and accurately in time sensitive matters and organized to manage and track multiple priorities simultaneously – grace under pressure and the ability to switch gears at a moment’s notice.

- Excellent written and verbal skills as well as prioritization and planning skills – with strong attention to detail.

- Experience with leading global organizational design efforts.
- Proven ability to sustain HR and people programs during times of change.
- Experience in scoping, leading and delivering complex global projects and people initiatives.
- Understands the features and detailed functional requirements of the work, as well as the end user’s/customer’s needs.
