We know that Accounting is typically viewed as a back-office function, but at Hot Topic we work collaboratively and see this role as a component in ensuring our team’s success. We’re looking for a Fixed Assets Accountant that has the right mix of accounting experience and people skills to excel at the role to round out our Fixed Assets team. This position will report to the Property and Lease Accounting Manager.
This role will be based out of our City of Industry, CA office with two days in office required.
Pay range is $60K-75K
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Maintain the fixed assets module including additions, disposals, transfers, and depreciation for 900+ retail stores, plus our distribution centers and headquarters.
- Review and provide general ledger coding for fixed asset invoices and follow up with appropriate business partners to resolve issues.
- Create and post monthly fixed asset journal entries.
- Communicate with internal departments in order to acquire information to track store openings and closures and the status of capital projects.
- Assign and maintain the list of valid capital projects in the accounting system.
- Assist in providing monthly capital spending reports to Finance Department and capital project owners.
- Reconcile the construction in process accounts monthly; review aged items and work with the business to determine appropriateness of items recorded.
- Be open to taking on other responsibilities and ad hoc projects within the Accounting Department.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
- 1-2 years of high-volume accounting experience in retail experience preferred.
- A bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, preferred.
- Knowledge of fundamental accounting concepts, practices, and procedures related to fixed assets.
- Strong communication skills including ability to work in a team environment and is a solid verbal and written communicator.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Needs to be well-organized, proactive, detail-oriented, and have excellent time management skills.
- Meets deadlines, prioritizes appropriately, copes well with change, and maintains composure under pressure.
- Is accountable for results, approaches obstacles proactively and looks for ways to resolve problems and issues.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, while adhering to strict deadline.
- Preferred experience using Lawson general ledger and Blackline.
