Position at SBM Management

VP, Payroll

The VP will be responsible for managing the day-to-day functioning of the Payroll, and Time and Attendance groups. The VP will oversee accurate payroll processing and tax compliance. This role requires strong collaboration with stakeholders in all areas of the organization. This position will support the leadership team in directing the payroll strategies for the organization. This individual must demonstrate the combination of business acumen, functional knowledge, and the ability to influence others.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Provides strategic direction and oversees the payroll, payroll compliance, time and attendance teams, and operating models
  • Drives the establishment and documentation of SOPs, policies, procedures, practices, and internal controls related to end-to-end payroll, time, and attendance processes
  • Builds partnerships and solicits feedback from internal and external business partners to define and develop successful, scalable processes and practices.
  • Partners with senior leadership in human resources, operations, finance, legal, and IT in developing, updating, and implementing system-wide policies and procedures to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the payroll process as well as in implementing strategic objectives.
  • Leads the development and oversight of key project plans to increase automation, consistency, accuracy, and integrity of payroll systems and operations.
  • Maximizes the effectiveness of key technologies and supports processes to drive continuous improvement and change initiatives. Leads the process to evaluate and select new technologies to meet business needs.
  • Oversees the audit of the payroll team's activities and processes to ensure compliance with all system-wide policies, state-specific employment laws, requirements, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Drives operational excellence including, but not limited to, development of the appropriate internal controls and compliance programs.
  • Coaches, mentors, and provides leadership development to team members in order to optimize operational excellence and create a deeper bench of experienced talent.
  • Establishes vendor partnerships and manages the payroll, payroll tax, and time and attendance vendor relationships, including selection, negotiation, consolidation, and management.
  • Collaborates with HR, Accounting, Finance, and Marketing on quarterly/year-end planning and communications related to payroll or payroll tax reporting functions.
  • Establishes and executes capacity planning methodology to properly manage resources within the department.
  • Ensures accuracy in burden calculations and hour tracking/approvals within the systems(s)
  • Establishes proper KPIs to measure the effectiveness of department operations
  • Skills: UKG a plus; Expert in Excel, heavy analytical skills, process improvement/optimization, strategic, proactive, positive, articulate, fast-paced, mentor, ability to identify talent

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or other related field required.
  • Master s Degree preferred.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred.
  • Minimum of seven to ten (7-10) years proven, progressive experience in payroll management in a complex multi-state union/nonunion environment
