The Technical Accounting team in Raytheon Missiles & Defense ("RMD") has an immediate remote opening for the role of Technical Accounting Senior Manager. The primary responsibility of the role is to manage a team of experienced Mission Area Technical Accountants tasked with providing in-depth reviews and researched guidance to RMD Program Finance and other organizations. The role is also tasked with leading and assisting in special projects to support both Corporate and RMD requests. The role is key to ensuring timely and accurate assessments are performed to support the revenue and bookings reported by the business. The core responsibilities of the Technical Accounting team are the review of new contracts under US GAAP and Company policies for revenue recognition timing and method, review of quarterly Estimate At Complete ("EAC") packages, and providing guidance to the broader organization on finance policies and procedures. The role will also assist in preparation or review of quarterly financial reporting deliverables, research of accounting topics under US GAAP and Company policies, documentation of accounting whitepapers, audit support, and training.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:

  • Manage a team of four experienced Technical Accountants that serve as the primary points of contact for three RMD Mission Areas.
  • Assess and conclude on the treatment of new awards for revenue recognition, timing of booking, and number of performance obligations under Company policy and US GAAP.
  • Perform reviews of quarterly EAC packages for long-term contracts.
  • Provide guidance on US GAAP and Company policies to the broader finance organization.
  • Document researched key accounting judgments and assessments in formal whitepapers.
  • Review documentation and conclusions of the team for accuracy and policy compliance prior to communication or finalization.
  • Assist in the preparation and review of quarterly financial reporting deliverables, such as the segment Management Discussion and Analysis (MD&A) deliverable and the business performance review deliverable.
  • Assist in Technical Accounting special projects such as segment-level policy harmonization, data analysis to support Corporate or management requests, system testing, and process improvement projects.
  • Perform special reviews under direction of the RMD Controller to assess the broader internal control environment.
  • Serve as a point of contact for the external and internal audit teams through their ad-hoc, quarterly review, or annual audit procedures.


Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or Business-related field or related field of study with ten years of prior relevant experience
    • An Advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for 2 additional years of experience.
  • Ten (10) years' experience working with and or supporting Finance and/or Accounting
  • Industry or public accounting firm experience in accounting, audits, or consulting


Qualifications We Value:

  • Experience reviewing contracts or agreements for accounting treatment
  • Experience researching transactions under US GAAP or company policies
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent
  • Working knowledge of IT systems such as data warehouses and ERP software
  • Proficiency in financial and reporting software

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Strong understanding of financial accounting concepts
  • Ability to work in a matrix environment with a great deal of autonomy
