Grubhub is looking for an experienced tax professional with expertise in U.S. state and local tax matters to help us grow and scale with the needs of the business. The principal responsibilities of this position will be to lead the Company's state and local tax function including sales/use tax planning, compliance, research, and audits as well as to manage external providers through the filing of federal and state corporate income tax returns and calculation of semi-annual and annual provisions under IFRS. This position will also coordinate with the JET Global Tax group on U.S. related inbound and outbound tax issues and assist various departments with tax compliance including operations, payroll, accounting, legal and HR.
The Impact You Will Make

• Monitor state and local tax laws, regulations, and decisions that could impact Grubhub including research of technical merits of state tax positions given current and proposed state and local tax legislation, communicate conclusions, and document positions
• Advise business of applicable changes and review the result of product changes to ensure compliance with all sales tax laws
• Manage direct and indirect state and local tax audits, including coordination with external advisors, developing positive relationships with state authorities, formulating settlement strategies and leading discussions with tax authorities
• Manage external providers through the filing of U.S. federal, state and local tax returns, quarterly estimated tax calculations and payments including providing information requested by providers and review of results
• Record entries and coordinate with accounting on tax related financial statement accounts
• Communicate U.S. tax issues applicable to Grubhub to Grubhub finance executives and Global Tax group of Just Eat Takeaway.com
• Assist with payroll withholding process to comply with IRS regulations and provide guidance for state and local tax requirements applicable to employees
• Ensure compliance with independent contractor, restaurant and employee tax requirements including oversight over 1099s (including 1009-Ks) and section 6039 reporting
• Coach, mentor, and develop tax skills of Senior and Staff Tax Accountants
• Maintain sales tax registrations and compliance with state, local and federal tax notices

What You Bring to the Table

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
• Master's degree in taxation or accounting and/or CPA preferred
• Minimum 7 years corporate tax experience in public accounting and/or private industry
• Experience in presenting to and negotiating with the IRS on tax matters
• Familiarity with unclaimed property (escheats) rules
• Experience with federal and state corporate income tax and sales/use tax matters
• Experience with income tax provision preparation
• Advanced Excel capabilities
• Strong organizational and clear and concise communication (both oral and written) skills
• Proven ability to coordinate multiple projects/assignments simultaneously and complete assigned tasks accurately and on a timely basis
