Job Specific Responsibilities:
  • Primary duties and responsibilities include transfer pricing U.S. compliance related to foreign entities, foreign structuring and restructuring, foreign tax audits, BEPS reporting, indirect taxes and transactional analysis:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement tax process improvements to streamline and rationalize manually intensive tax processes by utilizing integrated financial, operational and information systems.
  • Help develop new transfer pricing models and software implementation.
  • Perform monthly transfer pricing calculations and process journal entries.
  • Support BEPS documentation including Master File, Local File and Country by Country reporting.
  • Work on transfer pricing components to help with IRS audits.
  • Assist with non-U.S. tax audits, especially on issues related to cross-border transactions.
  • Work the Tax Accounting team to determine areas of tax exposure and help manage risks associated with these tax audits, keeping management apprised of potential liability and ensuring that reserves are adequate.
  • Identify, research and implement tax planning strategies (alongside Manager of International Tax Planning) to optimize non-U.S. income taxes, repatriate non-U.S. earnings, minimize subpart F income, and effectively utilize foreign tax credits, with overall goal of cash tax optimization and reducing the Company's effective tax rate.
  • Help monitor international tax legislation developments and advise on impacts and opportunities.
  • Support international and U.S. tax compliance reporting with respect to non-U.S. entities to ensure all reporting obligations are satisfied accurately and timely.
  • Work with the Tax Operations team to support plan, design and implementation of process improvements.
  • Support transfer pricing policies and procedures, including preparation of necessary transfer pricing documentation and related studies.

Tax Compliance/Tax Accounting/System support:
  • Review, advise and oversee the application of city/county/state/federal and international tax regulations to ensure company compliance with governmental tax regulations.
  • Advise, review and ensure the completion of the separate/combined/consolidated tax returns, tax provisions, estimated tax payments, cash tax forecasts, and extensions for all FedEx companies.
  • Create, review, and advise on detailed documentation to support tax positions
  • Analyze, interpret and review data to form conclusions regarding statutory incentive tax credit opportunities for all FedEx companies.
  • Advise on, review and maintain point of sales tax system including, but not limited to determining and updating custom tax rates.
  • Evaluate, design and implement tax process improvements under the supervision of the Executive Advisor or Tax Manager to streamline and rationalize manually intensive tax processes by utilizing integrated financial, operational, and information systems.
  • Review, analyze and interpret information from diverse sources to form tax positions for multiple FedEx companies.
  • Create, review and advise on detailed documentation and findings in support of tax filings.
  • Consult with management on tax issues and provides tax recommendations
  • Oversee and ensure adherence to department policies regarding managing, updating, and ensuring tax work is in compliance with required SOX control objectives.
  • Review and advise on tax footnotes including consolidated schedules that go into the footnote.

Tax Research/Special Projects:
  • Utilize academia knowledge and communication skills to execute FedEx Tax protocols in accordance with governmental regulations including but not limited to the Internal Revenue Service, state, and local jurisdictions
  • Evaluate, review and communicate detailed research documentation supporting tax planning/compliance conclusions
  • Analyze, interpret and review tax regulations for tax impact to all FedEx companies
  • Evaluate, document conclusions, and communicate to management tax impact for various tax special projects

Tax Controversy:
  • Represent all FedEx companies in Tax Audits including federal/state/local and international tax issues
  • Analyze, review and interpret information to complete Information Document Requests for federal/state/local and international tax audits
  • Develop and review detailed documentation supporting tax requests
  • Prepare/review memorandums documenting tax conclusions and communicate to management

Legislative Analysis:
  • Review and evaluate tax legislation and legislative changes.
  • Form conclusions related to tax legislation and communicate the tax impact to management.
  • Interpret tax legislation to ensure appropriate application for tax reporting purposes.
  • Create/review detailed documentation/calculations supporting tax impact of legislative changes

Other Duties:
  • Assist in management coordination of the Tax internship and mentoring programs.
  • Assist, as needed, with training, learning and development function for the Tax organization.
  • Assist with vendor management
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance, business administration, economics or related discipline.
  • Five (5) years directly related tax experience in public accounting or corporate tax department.
  • Strong human relations, analytical, communications and research skills.

Domicile/Relocation:
  • This position is currently located in Memphis, Tennessee. Ability to work remotely within the United States may be available based upon business needs. Relocation assistance may be available based on business needs.
