Position Overview

The Senior Accountant position creates financial transactions and creates financial reports from that information, but is also responsible for the accounting operations of the company, to include the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). The Senior Accountant also reconciles accounts to ensure their accuracy and completeness. The Senior Accountant acts as a mentor for more junior accounting staff. In addition, the Senior Accountant assists with establishing policies and procedures for purchasing and financial reporting and helps maintain the company's Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) 404 compliance.

Essential Duties

include but are not limited to the following:

  • Establish and maintain accounting policies and procedures that are in compliance with applicable government regulations (SOX, GAAP, IFRS)
  • Proactive ownership role in continuous process improvements as it relates to the company's internal controls, process memos and control matrices
  • Monitor industry/regulatory changes with respect to accounting standards adopted by the company and develop new processes and policies to accommodate accordingly
  • Ability to perform technical accounting research and prepare detailed accounting analysis to arrive at proposal of accounting treatment
  • Ability to work independently and cross-functionally with teams across the organization to take on new tasks with high level of difficulty
  • Individual will be expected to work with minimal up-front guidance and take ownership of his/her work product. The individual will work closely with all major functional leaders of the company
  • Must be able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline driven environment.
  • Conduct periodic reconciliations of all accounts to ensure their accuracy
  • Assist in financial statement preparation through performing consolidating journal entries, foreign currency translation and revaluation, and by maintaining the trial balance
  • Ability to analyze financial statements and corroborate changes identified
  • Assist with annual internal and external financial statement audits. Complete requested materials. Assist in preparing assigned schedules for the annual and interim audits
  • Back-up duties assigned to other members of the finance team
  • Coordinate and resolve various issues with bank such as cleared check differences, targeted balance calculations and enhancements to online services
  • Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements
  • Contribute to department and organization special projects as assigned
  • Support and comply with the company's Quality Management System policies and procedures
  • Regular and reliable attendance
  • Ability to work normal schedule of Monday through Friday during normal business hours
  • Ability to work seated for approximately 50% of a typical working day. Ability to work standing for approximately 50% of a typical working day
  • Ability to work in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 90% of a typical working day


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration
  • 3+ years of experience in public accounting or in a corporate accounting role
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Software Suite
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree
  • Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designations
  • Life Sciences industry knowledge
  • Experience with SAP
