Job Description

Responsibilities: 

  • Manage ADP in the accurate preparation and timely submission of periodic federal, state, and local tax filings and deposits for all entities, including production and reconciliations of W-2s and W-2Cs
  • Prepare GL posting to record the tax payments to the appropriate tax liability accounts
  • Reconcile and resolve variances between tax payments and accruals by jurisdiction via GL reconciliations
  • Investigate, analyze and respond timely and accurately to tax inquiries and audits from both internal customers and external agencies
  • Review and resolve open items related to tax notices on the ADP Smart Compliance website
  • Prepare additional correspondence to request information, abatement of penalties, or refunds as needed with federal, state, and local agencies
  • Act as a resource for payroll tax questions for the team, other departments, and team members
  • Coordinate with I/T to ensure WorkDay tax tables are updated as needed
  • Remain updated on mandates and changes related to state and federal payroll taxes
  • Prepare additional tax registrations as needed
  • Assist with system upgrades and performs regression testing on fixes and enhancements
  • Perform post implementation quality assurance, troubleshooting and issue resolution
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned
  • From time to time, act as a resource for non-payroll taxes including sales/use and personal property tax

Skills: 

  • Experience with comprehensive payroll outsourced model or outsourced payroll tax model
  • Knowledge of current Federal, State and Local tax laws as well as methods for researching laws and subscribing to services who provide alerts impacting the tax jurisdictions in which Whole Foods has reporting requirements
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Self-starter
  • Able to work independently with limited supervision on regular routine assignments, including managing time to meet critical deadlines
  • Work effectively under pressure
  • Knowledge of payroll and payroll tax related regulations outside US a plus
  • Working knowledge of Workday a plus

Education & Experience:

  • BA/BS degree and 4-6 years’ relevant experience OR equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Multistate payroll tax
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) a plus
