POSITION SUMMARY:

Boys Town is seeking an experienced individual for the role of Senior Payroll Specialist. In this role you will ensure accurate and timely issuing of pay to employees by correctly calculating earnings and deductions in accordance with established practices, guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES:

  • Receives, processes, and maintains records for payroll related data.
    • Prioritizes and coordinates data entry workload to ensure necessary changes are entered and that payroll is completed accurately and on time; verifies accuracy of data changes entered.
    • Completes payroll duties including calculating retroactive pay, maintaining shift differential information, and processing payroll and manual checks.
    • Reviews address changes to ensure that employees are taxed in compliance with employment and residence locations.
    • Reviews and uploads changes to retirement plan contributions, submits retirement plan contributions, and conducts audits to determine accuracy of retirement plan contributions; transmits information on retirement plan for investment purposes.
    • Provides salary information for unemployment insurance and workers compensation claims and for calculation of pension benefits; collects payroll information in response to subpoenas.
    • Complies with new hire reporting regulations by transmitting a semi-monthly file regarding newly hired employees.
    • Reviews time and attendance reports and calculates regular and overtime pay; audits time entry information for discrepancies, communicates with timekeepers to correct discrepancies, and responds to questions regarding any time entry issues.
    • Serves as a backup to other department personnel, assists with payroll system changes, and files quarterly wage reports, as necessary.
    • Composes and sends professional level correspondence to outside agencies and to employees regarding payroll and taxation matters.
    • Processes payments for various payroll deductions and remits payments for child support and garnishments, responds to interrogatories for garnishments and levies, and sets up appropriate deductions and tracks withholding.
  • Serves as a role model in carrying out the Father Flanagans Boys Home mission.
    • Directs all activities towards the fulfillment of the Boys Town mission
    • Directs all actions to reflect the values and principles of Boys Town
    • Establishes and maintains an environment that encourages teamwork, collaboration, and ethical behavior
    • Maintains regular, reliable and predictable attendance
    • Supports other members of the management team and their work
  • Other Duties: This job description incorporates the essential functions and duties required for this position. However, other duties may be required and assigned at times and as determined by a supervisor in order to meet the needs of the organization

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulatory requirements pertaining to payroll.
  • High level of professionalism and interpersonal skills. Excellent critical thinking, analytical, and problem solving skills.
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word and the ability to learn and use various software programs.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with individuals at all levels in the organization and with external business contacts in an articulate, professional manner while maintaining necessary degree of confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and multi-task while maintaining quality standards.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors degree in accounting or a related field is preferred.
  • 1 - 3 years of payroll experience, preferably in a multi-state payroll environment with experience processing payroll taxes.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSURES, AND LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND EQUIPMENT USAGE:
Position requires little to moderate physical activity. Handling of average weight objects up to 20 pounds or standing and/or walking or at a keyboard, workstation, or desk.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is typically in a normal office administrative environment involving minimal exposure to physical risks.
