Job Summary
Senior Manager, Tax Services is responsible for strategically directing all activities within the Tax department to minimize risk to the company and customer base by completing timely and accurate transactions and providing outstanding support to clients. Core duties include: cultivating relationships with associated Tax agencies, maintaining a thorough understanding of agency regulations and effectively communicating those to various stakeholders, translating regulations to technical requirements to assure integration into Paycor software and processes. In addition to leading the strategic direction and execution of Paycor's Tax objectives, the Sr. Manager, Tax is also responsible for working with and coaching direct reports to maximize their individual and teams' performance. A successful candidate will be able to build consensus among the various departments and influence each team to understand and follow his/her direction to ensure high quality results. The Sr. Manager, Tax will also be process oriented with a focus on recognizing and implementing efficiency gains in an effort to establish a team culture of continuous improvement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Establish, document and monitor department workflow procedures and recommend improvements
  • Develop measurable performance standards and implement consistent use of these standards throughout the Tax department
  • Cultivate excellent working relationships with Federal, State and Local taxing authorities to maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulations and issues
  • Collaborate with the Marketing team to manage programs that regularly communicate relevant information to internal and external stakeholders ; Establish and execute a variety of timely communications targeted toward non-experts and including a Monthly Tax Flash with overview of pending legislation, recently adopted legislation and upcoming global updates
  • Advocate with Product and IT for system changes and/or enhancements related to tax needs; actively participate in product update discussions
  • Manage expenses within the established budget
  • Collaborate with other Client Service Leaders to continually review and enhance operational performance and strategy
  • Provide vision, leadership, and guidance to direct reports and department associates; coach and mentor direct reports to ensure an energized, motivating work environment and desired business outcomes are achieved
  • Work with direct reports on associate relations including performance management, personal development, coaching, and recognition; meet regularly to assess each managers' team - address performance issues and disciplinary action as needed, identify training needs and implement plans to address them
  • Appropriately staff each team with recommendations for both short and long term staffing models
  • Participate in the hiring processes for relevant Tax positions
  • Adapt to a changing and rapidly growing environment
  • Other duties as assigned


Requirements

  • 4-year degree with a CPA preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in accounting, tax, financial services or similar industry as well as management/leadership
  • Demonstrated knowledge of payroll tax issues
  • Strong analytical and technical skills
  • Demonstrated ability to inform and educate others and to translate complex material into understandable training modules for individual use; outline key issues to non-technical parties inside and outside Paycor
  • Able to work well cross functionally in a fast paced environment with changing initiatives
  • Roughly 10% travel per year; may vary depending on business need.
