POSITION DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Senior Manager, AccountingCLASSIFICATION: Professional 4
SALARY: $80,000 - $89,000

POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Manager, Accounting manages the accounts payable and supervises the Accounts Payable Specialist. This position requires regular interdepartmental communication and detailed and accurate execution of deliverables.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Accounts Payable

  • Manages the Account Payable module of the General Ledger system.
  • Supervises the Accounts Payable Specialist in the accounts payable process. Ensures communication of duties and responsibilities to direct reports and monitor performance. Provide regular coaching and counseling. Identifies training needs. Prepares and delivers salary and performance reviews; reviews and approves performance and salary appraisals as necessary
  • Manages the Accounts Payable process to ensure all accounts payable related transactions (vouchers/checks/wires/ACH payments/void checks/ debit adjustments) are correctly recorded in the accounting system. Continually identifies areas for improvements and efficiencies within the process.
  • Manages the annual 1099 process.
  • Manages the list of outstanding checks and processes related unclaimed property as appropriate

Month End Close

  • Performs monthly bank reconciliations for all active bank accounts.
  • Manages the month-end expense accrual process.
  • Reconciles various prepaid expense, inventory, and liability accounts, on a monthly basis. Interact with various departments to obtain the required information.


Budget Management

  • Works with department managers to develop and revise annual unrestricted expense budgets
  • Conducts monthly budget vs. actual meetings with department managers to ensure accuracy of expense recording and adherence to budgets
  • Serve as primary point of contact for all unrestricted expense and unrestricted expense budget related inquiries


Year End Close

  • Manages the annual 5500 preparation and annual Pension Plan Audit.
  • Assists with preparation of year-end financial statement audit schedules.
  • Assist with the preparation of the annual Form 990 and supporting schedules.

Other

  • Manages the corporate American Express credit card program.
  • Calculates lobbying expenditures on a quarterly basis.
  • Manages the accounting cycle for Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and preparation of financial statements.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor's (B.A./B.S.) degree or equivalent
Experience: 6 years of relevant experience
