Description

IFC-a member of the World Bank Group-is the largest global development institution focused on the private sector in emerging markets. We work in more than 100 countries, using our capital, expertise, and influence to create markets and opportunities in developing countries. In fiscal year 2021, IFC committed a record $31.5 billion to private companies and financial institutions in developing countries, leveraging the power of the private sector to end extreme poverty and boost shared prosperity as economies grapple with the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. For more information, visit www.ifc.org.

IFC has embarked on an ambitious new strategy to stimulate more investment activity, especially in Low Income Countries (LICs) and Fragile and Conflict affected States (FCS). This new strategy aims at creating our own opportunities for private investments in riskier markets by proactively working in these countries to create, deepen, and expand the markets themselves.

The Financial Institutions Group (FIG) is one of the major industry groups at IFC, responsible for managing roughly 40% of IFC's overall business in terms of volume and capital at risk. FIG engages in a wide range of sub-sectors including Microfinance, SME, Gender, Climate, Insurance, Capital Markets, Housing, Distressed Assets, and other areas, with both investment and advisory services delivered to IFC's clients through IFC's global network. FIG's mission is to support effective, responsible, inclusive financial intermediaries and leverage them to meet our developmental impact and financial sustainability goals.

FIG's mission is to support effective, responsible, inclusive financial intermediaries and leverage them to meet our developmental impact and financial sustainability goals. This includes increasing access to finance through IFC's capacity to strengthen partner commitments and improve responsible financial intermediaries. FIG's Global Microfinance also leads the implementation of the World Bank Group's Universal Financial Access Strategy. The team's investment and advisory services operate across evolving global initiatives for traditional and digital financial inclusion, namely: (1) corporate governance for financial inclusion; (2) Microfinance-Digital Financial Services risk management; and (3) responsible digital financial services. With more than 1.7 billion people and millions of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) still lacking access to basic financial services in much of the developing world, increasing access to finance remains an enormous challenge. The recurrence of financial crises globally, has underscored the importance of corporate governance, risk management and responsible financial practices for a more stable, resilient and inclusive financial services sector to achieve economic growth.

FIG is seeking for a Senior Industry Specialist (G2) to work in its MSME unit and provide industry expertise to FIG teams globally/across regions. The position will be based in Washington DC.
