Senior Income Tax Accountant - Audit (Hybrid work option)
JOB SUMMARY

The Strategic Tax department is a close-knit, highly experienced group that functions as the party responsible for managing all of the state income tax audits and state income tax policy analysis for Charter Communications, a leading broadband connectivity provider and a Fortune 100 company. Our work product is regularly visible to the Chief Accounting Officer and Controller, Government Affairs team, as well as the CFO.
As Senior Tax Accountant, you will have the opportunity to pursue your interest in communications services and technology to help develop and advance Charter's strategy to impact state tax policy in over 40 states and help defend Charter's state tax positions.
On any given day, you could be supporting the Government Affairs team by determining the impact to Charter of proposed tax legislation, preparing deliverables in response to requests from a state auditor, interacting with Treasury officials to resolve tax offsets, or assisting with multi-million dollar settlement negotiations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare responses to federal and state income tax audit requests using tax returns, workpapers, ERP data, public financial records, tax position memorandums, and various other records of the company
- Coordinate audit data requests with compliance team, other Business Departments, and external parties
- Analyze, summarize, and present to management audit adjustments/assessments issued by taxing authorities
- Research factual and legal aspects of audit issues and exposures to anticipate impact of potential audit adjustments based upon tax return positions and related reserves
- Make initial determinations and recommendations for the resolution of audit issues
- Assist with resolution of audit issues and deficiencies via settlement negotiations or appeals process
- Research technical issues and model potential settlement resolutions for audit protests and appeals
- Support state tax policy efforts by reviewing and analyzing related federal, state and local income tax legislative developments
- Research, analyze, and model the impact of income tax legislative proposals
- Perform other duties as required
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Tax Knowledge
- Comprehensive knowledge of and experience with corporate federal and state income tax returns
- Experience with consolidated corporate and partnership returns
- Proficient with state income tax concepts (e.g. apportionment, unitary/separate reporting, modifications, etc.)
- Experience with corporate income tax provision and accounting for uncertain tax positions
- Proficient with OneSource Income Tax, Tax Research Databases (e.g. Checkpoint, Bloomberg BNA)
- Experience with ERP systems preferable (e.g. PeopleSoft, SAP and JDE)
Skills/Abilities and Knowledge
- Proficient and extensive use of Microsoft Excel (including advanced use of formulas), Office Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
- Strong research, analytical, interpretation, and presentation skills (written and verbal)
- Exposure to Access and Altryx preferable
- Effectively performs as part of a team and committed to common objectives; works well independently or within a group
- Adapts quickly to unexpected/changing conditions; assists others to effectively handle new situations
- Problem solver and decisive decision maker; high level of attention to detail
Education
Bachelor's degree in Accounting
CPA License
Related Work Experience
- 3+ years in public accounting with corporate federal and state income tax experience
