Job Summary

This position provides the day to day finance functions to support the EH&S (Environmental Health and Safety) and CCP (Coal Combustion Products) organization. This position is responsible for cost management, accounting, and financial analysis to support the EHS & CCP Operations and Maintenance Organization. This position also helps ensure adherence to overall GAAP and internal company financial policies and procedures, particularly related to collaborating with CARG (Corporate Accounting Research Group) and Fixed Assets as needed. Key activities for the role include: coordinating and supporting month-end close activities, providing timely and accurate analysis and cost management reporting, ensuring adherence to internal and external governance requirements, facilitating an effective budget & planning process, and supporting processes to develop and communicate accurate projection information for the EHS & CCP organization. Incumbent will also be the primary point of contact for addressing other ad hoc requests as necessary. This position will assist in defining and executing initiatives to drive a culture of accountability for financial management in their business partner's organization. Effective leadership, communication and collaboration skills are essential for this position as the incumbent is responsible for functions that cross and impact multiple fleet sites.

This is the fourth level of the financial analysis classification hierarchy. Employees at this level work in self directed manner receiving very minimal guidance. Incumbents are required to have in-depth knowledge and experience and work to solve complex problems. Incumbents also act as a resource for less experience employees.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure effective budget & planning process - Help drive the budget and planning process including communication of budget guidance, assumptions, and calendars for assigned sections. Validate budgets uploaded to correct target amounts.
  • Ensure timely and accurate analysis and reporting - perform and review results of management reporting, variance analysis, and projection updates. Support the development of tools and practices to enhance projection accuracy. Ensure communication of monthly close deadlines and expectations. Coordinate the completion of effective variance explanations.
  • Leadership - Build relationships with business partners and promote two-way communication with them and Finance staff. Help provide guidance to team on complex accounting issues.



Required/Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with major in Accounting/Finance or related discipline
  • Three (3) plus years of increasingly diverse or complex experience in related field in addition to degree
  • Possesses and applies fundamental accounting and finance concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Experience with financial applications (i.e., PeopleSoft, HFM, PowerPlan, etc.) and query tool (WebI)
  • Experience using Microsoft products such as Excel, Word and Power Point



Desired Qualifications

  • CPA or working toward CPA
  • Advanced degree, preferably in Accounting
  • Six (6) years or more of professional work related experience

  • Possesses and applies a comprehensive knowledge of accounting and finance principles, practices, and procedures to complete moderately complex assignments

Working Conditions

  • Hybrid Mobility Classification - Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to a Duke Energy facility.
