The WFMOA (Whole Foods Market on Amazon – eCommerce program) Finance Team is growing the team and adding a Senior Financial Analyst role to provide business support on activities such as forecasting, business reviews, and routine reporting to support a quickly evolving multibillion-dollar business. Our finance team’s goal is to support the business with financial guidance and stewardship to drive strategic decision making. Under the guidance from the Finance Manager, the SFA will partner closely with both finance and operational partners from Whole Foods and Amazon to put together analysis and commentary to speak to business performance and ensure financial accuracy. This role will have high exposure to Amazon and across Whole Foods, working with dozens of business partners on a regular basis.
The successful candidate is a driven self-starter displaying strong business acumen with a proven track record of driving improvement and contributing new ideas. They will be energized by being able to establish and create new processes and will be comfortable working with ambiguity. Effective business partner communication and creative problem-solving abilities are just as critical to success as having solid technical skills and being detail focused. Due to the broad scope of the WFMOA Finance Team, the SFA will need to be able to tackle multiple projects, support multiple business partners, execute on deliverables, balance meetings with working time, and be able to proactively manage through priorities with the Finance Manager.

Responsibilities:

Own and support all aspects of preparing for regular weekly/monthly/quarterly Business Reviews:

  • Ensure P&L accuracy
  • Prepare clear and actionable financial commentary that explains the why
  • Investigate variance drivers through partnership with cross-functional stakeholders and create action plans for resolving any identified discrepancies

Contribute to the forecasting process (including revenue, margin, and some expense):

  • Familiarity with a customer funnel approach is a plus
  • Ensure forecast load accuracy across multiple financial systems

Reporting/ FP&A rotational secondary role:

  • Partner with business leads to assess reporting needs and build out new reports
  • Support broader finance organization with reporting

Other:

  • Proactively engage the team in identifying and addressing risks and provide potential solutions
  • Attend and contribute to meeting discussions, leading conversations as necessary
  • Provide ad-hoc analysis as needed
  • Provide written commentary as needed to support various business documents

General Qualifications:

  • Retail, grocery, or eCommerce experience strongly preferred, with solid understanding of key retail concepts such as revenue, product margin, operational costs, etc.
  • Minimum of 4 years’ professional experience in a corporate FP&A (non-accounting) or equivalent business role
  • Demonstrated career progression and increased scope of responsibility
  • Creative and independent thinker with proven ability to identify and tackle complex problems
  • Ability to communicate effectively across audiences and across multiple levels of leadership
  • Skilled at using numbers to tell a story and recommend a course of action
  • Desire to constantly improve and question the status quo
  • Positive attitude, ability to work well and fast under pressure, and exceptional customer service attitude
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to travel as needed

Technical Qualifications:

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Solid understanding of P&L and GL accounts, preferably across multiple companies (this business owns and manages a full P&L including allocations)
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in both P&L-facing roles and business reporting roles
  • Retail modeling experience preferable: revenue forecasting, margin forecasting, etc.
  • Experience in Enterprise Performance solutions: Tableau, Workday Financials, Cognos, and Adaptive software a plus
  • Strong written communication skills
