Senior Director, Community Impact and Investment - Lending & Investing

The Community Impact and Investment (CII) team is committed to inclusively designing positive social impact with our associates, customers, and ultimately, the communities we serve. The CII team includes the following functional areas: reputational risk, philanthropic advisory and giving, associate volunteerism and CDFI lending.
We are hiring for a Senior Director who is strategic, entrepreneurial and results driven. The Senior Director will:

  • Own the Community Development Finance Institution (CDFI) lending strategy
  • Partner with the Capital One Ventures team in building out and executing on the Social Impact Investment strategy
  • Develop an "investment strategy" that informs the way that funds are allocated against the focus areas
  • Establish and implement a methodology for evaluating nonprofit partners
  • Build an authentic and inclusive culture that values diversity of thought
  • Invest in current and future talent through supporting recruitment, retention and development within the team, External Affairs and Capital One


Core expectations include:

  • Establish, collaboratively, a set of goals, KPIs, and evaluation metrics for the CDFI partnership activities to be tracked and communicated throughout the lifetime of those responsibilities
  • Partner with the social impact investment team to drive the SII strategy including areas of key focus and pace of investment
  • Live the principles of positivity, humility, inclusivity, and sound judgment every step of the way
  • Understand and influence the organization's strategy and vision and support in execution
  • Demonstrate and support collaborative, mission-oriented innovation within CII, EA, and broader Capital One
  • Leverage data to support business decision-making and strategy development
  • Cultivate a balanced work environment that prioritizes well-being along with productivity
  • Provide timely updates and context on projects to key stakeholders, seeking counsel as needed
  • Balance immediate concerns with the bigger picture, always identifying how decisions in one area may either positively or negatively impact outcomes in another
  • Whenever possible, seek and use data to inform decisions, especially on time-, budget- and resource-intensive projects and initiatives
  • Advocate for and exemplify excellence across the board, especially in opportunities to leverage well-managed processes to achieve greater impact


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or military experience
  • At least 5 years of experience in investing, at least 5 years of experience in asset management, or a combination
  • At least 3 years of experience with stakeholder management
  • At least 2 years of experience in process or project leadership


Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA, MPP, or other graduate degree requiring quantitative fluency
  • 5+ years of experience investing with a private equity firm
  • 2+ years of underwriting experience
  • 1+ years of experience advising stakeholders on issues related to financial institutions, including small banks and Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs)
  • 1+ years of experience examining the role and efficacy of philanthropy in community impact
  • 3+ years of experience in major project or process leadership
  • 3+ years of experience engaging with stakeholders with varying areas and levels of subject matter expertise

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
Location is New York City
- $214,312 and $252,840 for Sr. Director, Community Impact and Investment
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.
