Position Overview

The Senior Derivatives Accountant will be responsible for the preparation of the Company's global derivatives portfolio valuation and the application of hedge accounting. This includes various middle and back-office operations associated with the Company's derivative trading activities as well as month-end, quarter-end, and year-end reporting activities. The Senior Accountant will also be responsible for maintaining and improving the global IT systems and internal controls related to financial instrument valuation as well as being part of special projects that involve designing, developing, and maintaining in-house processes using SQL, Visual Basic, and Python.

The Senior Derivatives Accountant is a key member of a centralized team in Atlanta and regularly liaises with corporate and regional personnel such as front office and Risk Management, Treasury, Legal, FP&A, Regional Accounting teams as well as Financial Reporting. This role reports to the Manager, Derivative Accounting & Reporting.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Role Responsibilities

  • Support the team in the application of hedge accounting by coordinating with regional accounting teams, collaborate with FP&A to understand trends in inventory levels, purchasing and sales patterns, and liaise with departments outside of finance to understand commercial arrangements
  • Prepare forecast and related analyses
  • Prepare and review journal entries associated with marking to market and hedge accounting and operate as a business partner to the regional accounting teams
  • Assist with development and maintenance support to in-house systems written in SQL, Visual Basic, and Python
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of Novelis' risk management practices and stay up to date with changes in the Company's risk management policies and strategies
  • Assist in the collection of market data and the valuation of the Company's global derivative portfolio per ASC 815 and IFRS 9
  • Responsible for the preparation of a variety of analyses and reports around developments in relevant financial markets, impact on derivative positions, and results of hedge accounting
  • Responsible for the preparation of relevant financial reporting disclosures associated with derivatives as included in the Company's SEC filings under US GAAP and Ind AS/IFRS accounting standards
  • Responsible for preparation of audit requests from the external audit group
  • Assist with a variety of middle office duties and coordinate with front office traders to ensure completeness and accuracy of derivative systems
  • Maintain and perform internal controls, processes, documentation, and reporting to ensure compliance with SOX, and OTC regulatory requirements under the US Dodd-Frank Act and EMIR



Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field
  • 6-8+ years of experience in related roles is required
  • Coding experience is required (SQL, Visual Basic, and/or Python)
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills are required
  • Ability to learn and understand complex financial concepts
  • A hard-working individual with the desire to continually learn, improve and automate processes



Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with REVAL system is a plus
  • Experience with HFM or OneStream is a plus
  • Prior experience with Workiva is a plus
