A Brief Summary of This Position:

Valmont Industries, Inc., a leading global provider of engineered products and services for infrastructure development and irrigation equipment and services for agriculture, has an immediate opening for a Senior Accountant in the accounting department. This position supports the accounting and financial reporting functions for the Brenham manufacturing plant in concert with Divisional and Corporate accounting policies and procedures, and includes inventory valuation and control, shop order/work order variance analysis, financial/management reporting and closing activities.

Essential Functions

  • Analyze periodic manufacturing variances including purchase cost, material usage and overhead variances
  • Evaluate, document, assign and improve the effectiveness of the inventory cycle count programs and activities, to include creating and maintaining effective controls for Internal Audit
  • Prepare accurate, timely financial reports using Excel and OneStream that compare and analyze current results with budgeted results and future forecast
  • Effectively communicate the results of the cost analysis performed with reliable conclusions that management can use to implement more effective operational strategies
  • Assist with cost and inventory report generation for operations management
  • Work with the site personnel to gather data and explanations to support spend and productivity analysis
  • Complete and summarize weekly forecast updates
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Maintain appropriate professional competencies, certifications, licenses, etc., necessary to perform job. Inform management of any training needs that exist. Consult management immediately if anything inappropriate is being asked and/or the candidate is not comfortable doing because of potential safety or risk implications.



Other Important Details about the Role

Reporting to the Brenham Site Controller, this position is responsible for supporting the review and analysis of financial performance of the Brenham site. This includes the completion of reports, charts and diagrams that provide a basis for comparison and evaluation. This position is also responsible for providing ad hoc analysis to support financial forecasts, internal management reporting, benchmarking and monitoring of key cost indicators. The person in this role will work closely with the site personnel to understand and explain performance variances and trends. Other responsibilities include timely and accurate completion of the monthly book close process and the weekly forecasts.

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with emphasis in accounting or finance
  • High proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications with advanced Excel and Power Point skills
  • 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment with an annual revenue base of $50M or greater
  • 3+ years of experience in cost accounting and inventory reporting and analysis
  • 2+ years of general ledger accounting experience including account reconciliations, journal entries, intercompany, and a basic understanding of internal controls

  • Strong cost accounting skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively analyze standard to actual cost information
  • Highly motivated and self-directed worker with the ability to work independently within the context of a complex matrix organization
  • Experience with IFS systems preferred
  • MBA or other advanced degree preferred



Working Environment and Physical Efforts: Can be used for the majority of administrative positions

Work is typically performed in an office setting. The incumbent is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. No travel requirements for this position. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. The employee is occasionally required to move about the office. Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitoring height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrists rests. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds in working with large files, binders, and computer equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
