About the Role
The Senior Accountant will be integral in building HDVI’s accounting systems and processes from the ground up. They will be responsible for several month-end close activities, day-to-day accounting functions and assist with audits and ad hoc projects. The candidate should seek a dynamic, fast-paced environment and be comfortable with ambiguity and change. The Senior Accountant will report to the Director of Finance.
What You'll Do
- Prepare monthly financial statements and financial reporting packages for the Senior Management Team and investors
- Prepare the monthly supporting work paper files and adhoc reconciliations
- Prepare monthly journal entries
- Prepare workpapers to support the calculation of internally developed software
- Assist in bank reconciliations and run reports and complete other activities required to assure a complete and accurate month-end close
- Ensure all required journal entries are completed for all companies in accordance with GAAP
- Assist with performing internal control processes across the organization
- Evaluate and implement accounting and internal processes, procedures, and control systems
- Work with the outside accountants on the year-end review audit, tax issues and other issues as needed
What You Have
- Bachelor's or master’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 3-5 years’ accounting experience in the insurance industry
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and STAT accounting principles
- Preferred experience working for an insurance organization
- Strong PC skills, including advanced Excel; proficiency in Outlook, Word
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Communication: Able to communicate effectively with senior management and organize and present accounting data, budgets and variances to various audiences
- Adaptable: Thrives in a fast-paced work environment and able to adapt to a changing work environment and processes
