Grammarly offers a remote-first hybrid working model. Team members can work primarily remotely. Starting in 2022, teams will meet in person every quarter in one of Grammarly’s hubs, currently in San Francisco, Vancouver, New York, and Kyiv. To ensure that teams are able to overlap in their working hours and to meet face-to-face when needed, all team members need to live within three time zones of their direct team.

Grammarly team members who will be collaborating at our San Francisco hub must be based in the United States.

The opportunity

Grammarly empowers people to thrive and connect, whenever and wherever they communicate. Every day, 30 million people and 30,000 teams around the world use our AI-powered writing assistant. All of this begins with our team collaborating in a values-driven and learning-oriented environment.

To achieve our ambitious goals, we’re looking for a Senior Accountant to join our Finance team. We are seeking an experienced, driven, and hands-on Senior Accountant to be a key member of the Finance team. The Senior Accountant will play a main role in ensuring the integrity of our records and in developing scalable and sustainable processes as the business grows. The Senior Accountant will be exposed to a variety of areas including but not limited to revenue recognition, foreign exchange impact, account reconciliation, software capitalization assessment, consolidation, audit, and more. This individual will work cross-functionally across the organization, within a detail-oriented environment, where creative problem solving is highly valued. The Senior Accountant is expected to manage multiple priorities concurrently without compromising quality.

Your impact

This role will be very hands-on and play an integral part in all aspects of accounting operations and a wide variety of projects as we scale. As a Senior Accountant, you will work closely with the Accounting Manager and other Accounting team members on the month-end close process, consolidation, audits, reporting, and more. You will work in a fast-paced environment and will be able to adopt changes as the company grows.

  • Within your first 30 days, you will start taking over the month-end close process for payroll-related reconciliation, prepaid expense amortization, revenue recognition, indirect tax accrual, AWS COS allocation, and consolidation. You will start developing and detailing business processes and accounting policies that strengthen internal controls. You will also ensure compliance with GAAP principles.
  • By month three, you will own the month-end close process for payroll-related reconciliation, prepaid expense amortization, revenue recognition, indirect tax accrual, AWS COS allocation, and consolidation. You will prepare monthly account reconciliations and reporting schedules, providing commentary and variance analysis. You will also start working on the software capitalization assessment.
  • By month six, you will collaborate cross-functionally with our Engineering team to make sure the B2C transactions are working properly—this is crucial to success in this position.
  • By month nine, you will assist in maintaining the integrity of the chart of accounts. You will participate in process improvements to streamline the monthly financial close process.
  • Beyond your first year, you will proactively identify issues and assist in optimizing systems, upgrades, and automation of accounting processes. You will aid in the development and implementation of new policies and procedures as well as assist with financial audits. In addition to continuing to support month-end and year-end close processes, you will document and monitor internal controls as part of operational accounting work.

We’re looking for someone who

  • Embodies our EAGER values—is ethical, adaptable, gritty, empathetic, and remarkable.
  • Has a bachelor’s degree in accounting and, preferably, is a CPA.
  • Has at least 5 years of combined private and public experience, including experience with cost of revenue, revenue recognition, payroll reconciliation, foreign exchange impact, internal controls, general ledger functions, consolidation, financial audits, and month-end and year-end close processes
  • Has experience working at a fast-growing startup (SaaS preferred).
  • Brings strong knowledge of US GAAP and internal controls.
  • Can meet tight deadlines and prioritize competing workloads while communicating clearly and empathetically, both face to face and in writing.
  • Is a curious, detail-oriented problem-solver who can organize and manage multiple responsibilities while displaying a high level of integrity, commitment, and responsibility to day-to-day work.
  • Has experience working with Netsuite, ADP, BambooHR, Salesforce, Braintree, Paypal, and Stripe.
  • Has worked with a team across functions.
  • Demonstrates English proficiency and advanced Excel skills.

Please note that Grammarly’s COVID-19 vaccination policy requires that all team members in North America be vaccinated against COVID-19 to meet in person for Grammarly business or to work from a North America hub location. It is expected that this will be a requirement for this role. Qualified candidates in North America who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons or because of a sincerely held religious belief may request a reasonable accommodation to this policy. For Ukraine, this policy requires team members to be vaccinated or produce a daily negative COVID-19 test administered at the Kyiv hub to work from the hub or attend in-person meetings.

An Insider's view of Grammarly

What’s the vibe like in the office?

Our values actually represent our team. Discussions about ethical decision-making or tweeting empathetically are common at Grammarly, and I recognize how rare that is.

Celeste

Senior Content Strategy Manager

How do you collaborate with other teams in the company?

We resolve our problems with constructive discussions that are only made possible by the level of empathy and listening skills that team members have here. It makes me happy to know I work with such exceptional people.

Maryna

Engineering Manager

What is your vision for the company?

Writing helps us all achieve personal, professional, and academic success, but effective communication requires talent and time. It can be very challenging, and we may not always be able to effectively express our meaning, convey our intent, and be fully understood—creating a gap with our audience. We’re building Grammarly to close this gap.

Brad

CEO

What projects are you most excited about?

I always feel pumped when I see the positive feedback we get from our users. To know that your work is helping people discover a product that meaningfully improves their lives—it never gets old.

Shanik

Head of Growth
