Senior Accountant
Grammarly offers a remote-first hybrid working model. Team members can work primarily remotely. Starting in 2022, teams will meet in person every quarter in one of Grammarly’s hubs, currently in San Francisco, Vancouver, New York, and Kyiv. To ensure that teams are able to overlap in their working hours and to meet face-to-face when needed, all team members need to live within three time zones of their direct team.
Grammarly team members who will be collaborating at our San Francisco hub must be based in the United States.
The opportunity
Grammarly empowers people to thrive and connect, whenever and wherever they communicate. Every day, 30 million people and 30,000 teams around the world use our AI-powered writing assistant. All of this begins with our team collaborating in a values-driven and learning-oriented environment.
To achieve our ambitious goals, we’re looking for a Senior Accountant to join our Finance team. We are seeking an experienced, driven, and hands-on Senior Accountant to be a key member of the Finance team. The Senior Accountant will play a main role in ensuring the integrity of our records and in developing scalable and sustainable processes as the business grows. The Senior Accountant will be exposed to a variety of areas including but not limited to revenue recognition, foreign exchange impact, account reconciliation, software capitalization assessment, consolidation, audit, and more. This individual will work cross-functionally across the organization, within a detail-oriented environment, where creative problem solving is highly valued. The Senior Accountant is expected to manage multiple priorities concurrently without compromising quality.
Your impact
This role will be very hands-on and play an integral part in all aspects of accounting operations and a wide variety of projects as we scale. As a Senior Accountant, you will work closely with the Accounting Manager and other Accounting team members on the month-end close process, consolidation, audits, reporting, and more. You will work in a fast-paced environment and will be able to adopt changes as the company grows.
- Within your first 30 days, you will start taking over the month-end close process for payroll-related reconciliation, prepaid expense amortization, revenue recognition, indirect tax accrual, AWS COS allocation, and consolidation. You will start developing and detailing business processes and accounting policies that strengthen internal controls. You will also ensure compliance with GAAP principles.
- By month three, you will own the month-end close process for payroll-related reconciliation, prepaid expense amortization, revenue recognition, indirect tax accrual, AWS COS allocation, and consolidation. You will prepare monthly account reconciliations and reporting schedules, providing commentary and variance analysis. You will also start working on the software capitalization assessment.
- By month six, you will collaborate cross-functionally with our Engineering team to make sure the B2C transactions are working properly—this is crucial to success in this position.
- By month nine, you will assist in maintaining the integrity of the chart of accounts. You will participate in process improvements to streamline the monthly financial close process.
- Beyond your first year, you will proactively identify issues and assist in optimizing systems, upgrades, and automation of accounting processes. You will aid in the development and implementation of new policies and procedures as well as assist with financial audits. In addition to continuing to support month-end and year-end close processes, you will document and monitor internal controls as part of operational accounting work.
