American National is seeking a Senior Accountant to join our financial reporting team in Galveston, TX. This candidate will enjoy a hybrid schedule and a supportive team environment!

Responsibilities• Prepare and review disclosures for quarterly and annual reporting for GAAP and Statutory reporting• Analyze and review financial statements to ensure compliance with accounting and reporting standards and maintain adequate knowledge of US GAAP and IFRS• Prepare and review monthly internal and external reports to satisfy quarterly debt covenants• Review and post journal entries for accruals, adjustments, and other items• Participate in and/or lead teams as assigned to projects• Communicate and interact effectively with all departments of finance and internal and external auditors• Ensure compliance with internal controls• Perform ad-hoc research and projects as needed• Assist in the analysis of operating results• Prepare annual state filings in accordance to state requirements

Skills and Abilities• Ability to understand prioritization to meet deadlines, work well under pressure and communicate effectively• Problem-solving skills to resolve issues effectively and efficiently• Ability to adequately perform self-review of work to ensure high level accuracy and proper presentation of all reports• Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision• Must be dedicated, well organized, able to multi-task and work independently and in team environment• High-level initiative and follow-through• Ability to work overtime as needed to fulfill the essential functions and additional responsibilities, which may include special projects, as necessary• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills

Qualifications• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or relevant experience • Requires proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and other applications• Financial reporting experience preferred• CPA, insurance industry designations preferred
